The 6th annual Quarry Shack 5 Miler brings a nighttime 5 mile run and walk to the Ghosttown Trail’s Rexis Branch on a closed, out-and-back route. The course starts just beyond the gate by the old train at the Rexis Trailhead, follows the right side of the trail for 2.5 miles, turns shortly after Red Mill Bridge, then heads back to the start. Expect a gentle rail-trail incline of about 115 feet on the way out and an all-downhill return. A single water stop sits under a pavilion near the turnaround, and clear signage plus a large Halloween decoration mark key points. Participants must provide their own light source such as a headlamp, waist light, or handheld, as the trail itself will be dark. Halloween decorations line the route and costumes are encouraged, and there are no scare actors on the course. Weather permitting, a start and finish arch with Quarry Shack themed banners will be in place. Chip timing records finish results, and bibs should be worn on the front. Awards recognize the top three overall male and female finishers, plus age-group winners for the run from youth through 70 and older. The walk division awards the top three overall male and female finishers, along with two age brackets, 45 and under and 46 and over. Awards are not mailed and must be collected at the event. Registration uses tiered pricing with a higher fee on race day, and day-of registration is cash or check only.
