Acclaimed trumpeter and educator Bruce Harris appears with the Charleston Jazz Orchestra for a salute to Satchmo, featuring beloved tunes including Hello, Dolly, Mack the Knife, Cheek to Cheek, and What a Wonderful World. The performance runs 90 minutes with no intermission. Supported in part by MUSC. Bronx-born Bruce Harris blends tradition and forward-looking creativity within New York City’s jazz community. Influenced by both hip hop and bebop, he began playing trumpet at 12, drawing inspiration from Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, and Prince. Early recognition came through the Essentially Ellington program with Wynton Marsalis, followed by studies with Jon Faddis at SUNY Purchase, where he earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in jazz performance. Harris has appeared at Smalls, Smoke Jazz Club, and Dizzy’s Club, and on television with The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. His collaborations span Tony Bennett, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Wynton Marsalis, Dave Brubeck, Samara Joy, and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. As a recording artist, he has released Beginnings, Soundview, and The Lighting of the Lamp, with a Barry Harris tribute album forthcoming on Equitone Records. He tours internationally as a soloist and bandleader, serves as Artistic Director of Programs at the Louis Armstrong House Museum in New York City, and is slated to honor Armstrong at the Newport Jazz Festival.

    The Filthy Heathens

Frontier Lounge , 135 Calhoun St, Charleston
    See details

There are no advance tickets. The Filthy Heathens deliver a five-piece attack born from the chemistry of Bronson Hetzer, Ryan Palcic, and “Captain” Craig Bishop, completed by guitarists Cody Doench and Dawson Stepp. Their sound blends Southern grit with an alternative edge, folding classic country and hard rock into something that resists easy labels. Influences stretch from Lynyrd Skynyrd and Waylon Jennings to Blackberry Smoke and The Steel Woods, resulting in a raw, heartfelt approach made to hit home in a live setting. On stage they push the pedal down, and the crowd matches the intensity, with sets designed to pull attention off the phone screen and into the moment. Their debut EP, Etheridge, features the singles Tupelo Sun and Devils Like Me. The Muscle Shoals Session captures the band live at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in a stripped-back, unfiltered form that mirrors the power of their concerts. With a growing following and momentum from stage to stage, they keep pushing the sound, louder, tighter, and even more precise.
