Magic the Gathering Tuesday Pauper!
Experience the Pauper format of Magic: The Gathering, where every deck uses only cards that have appeared at common rarity. A promo card is allowed only if the card itself has a common printing. If a card has ever been printed as a common in a paper release or on Magic Online, any version of that card may be played, including lands that feature a common set symbol and the L rarity code. Main decks must include at least 60 cards and there is no upper limit. This format is widely considered approachable, and thousands of raw cards are available to help build a deck.

A summer pinball league themed The Grateful Summer brings players together at Bang Back for friendly, competitive fun. Each week features six rounds of group match play, using 5/3/2/1 or 5/3/1 scoring with balanced pairings across the series. The first half of the season runs as two rounds of three games each week. In the second half, play splits into A and B divisions, and each division votes on either one longer round of six games or two rounds of three. Across the eight week season, only your best six weeks count toward the standings. The season fee is $30 plus coin drop for games, and dues include a league shirt, an end of season tournament, a banquet with a fun team competition, food, trophies and awards, and cash payouts for all participants. That Which Binds Us: Book Talk and Signing
At the Columbia Museum of Art, a literary program spotlights Columbia author Cathy Rigg and her debut novel, That Which Binds Us, a 2025 Forward INDIES Book of the Year finalist in historical fiction. The event features a reading and conversation with Deputy Director Joelle Ryan-Cook, live mountain music from special guests, opportunities to purchase the book, and a signing following the talk. Beverages are available from the First Thursday on Main bar, and admission is free as part of Free First Thursday at the CMA. Rigg grew up in the Appalachian Mountains of southwest Virginia, studied at Clemson University, and later settled in Columbia, where she founded the brand marketing firm Riggs Partners. Her fiction and poetry have appeared in Still: The Journal, Women Speak, litmosphere, These Mosaics, Clinch Mountain Review, and other publications. Set in 1854 on Virginia’s western edge, That Which Binds Us follows Elizabeth Young in the aftermath of her uncle’s hanging, as three newcomers enter her life and the Civil War approaches. The novel examines heritage, loyalty, clashing values, and the ties that endure across cultures and generations. Dream Asia Festival: South Carolina is a three-day celebration of Asian culture, cuisine, and creativity, bringing together a big lineup of food and merchandise from across Asia. A friendly, no-cost pinball tournament welcomes players of all skill levels. Entry is free, with standard coin drop for games. The competition features five rounds of group match play with 5/3/2/1 scoring in four player groups and 5/3/1 in three player groups, and automatic tiebreakers are enabled to resolve ties. A trophy or medal is awarded to the Grand Champion, and there are raffles for everyone. Finals formats vary. With sufficient turnout, a PAPA style playoff may be held for the top 4 to 8 players, or the event may instead extend to six rounds of group match play with no finals, depending on time constraints. At certain sessions, a rotating format is used for finals.

If the field has 16 or fewer players, prizes are awarded to the top four finishers, with 1st place receiving 40 percent, 2nd 30 percent, and 3rd and 4th 15 percent each. With 17 or more players, prizes are paid out to the top eight, with 1st at 30 percent, 2nd 20 percent, 3rd and 4th 15 percent each, and 5th to 8th 5 percent each. At the Columbia Museum of Art, this two-part class explores digital imaging with a focus on color photography. Participants receive practical guidance on adjusting images and preparing prints, along with context that connects digital photography to contemporary art. Art educator Jess Peri leads the session. Ages 15 and up. Please bring a digital camera, and note that other equipment will be provided. Bang Back Pinball Lounge hosts a triple Stern Army Pokémon launch celebration with three tournaments tailored for different players. The weekend opens with an all-ages competition featuring five rounds of group match play. Scoring follows 5-3-2-1 in four player groups and 5-3-1 in three player groups, and a Pokémon machine appears in every round. Everyone who competes is entered in Stern Army Pokémon raffles. The winner earns a Grand Champion plaque, and the top four receive Pokémon trophies. Finals use a PAPA style format for the top four over three games, with at least one game on Pokémon. If the field reaches 16 or more, finals expand to a top eight with two games per round and one of those games on Pokémon. In each round the top seed chooses the game or player order. All participants are included in Stern Army Pokémon raffles. A Grand Champion plaque goes to the winner, and Pokémon trophies recognize the top four. Finals follow the same approach as the open event, with three games for the top four and one of those games on Pokémon, or a top eight with two games per round if there are 16 or more players. In each case the top seed selects either the game or the order for every game.

By adjusting the mix of pigment and water, students learn how saturation shifts and affects the final look. Selvey demonstrates three foundational methods... wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, and dry brush... and then guides everyone in creating a sunset dock painting. Combined photogenic scores earn an overall Covergirl in both the morning and afternoon pageants.
