Fishing opportunities span numerous local wild trout streams within Great Smoky Mountains National Park, including the Little River, Abrams Creek, and the Middle Prong watersheds. A Tennessee or North Carolina fishing license is required for all fishing in the park, and vehicles parked inside the park must display a tag. Participants can choose larger, more accessible water near the campground on the Little River or hike about 1 to 4 miles to reach more remote small stream brook trout water such as Anthony Creek, Lynn Camp Prong, and Sam’s Creek. Beginners interested in small stream techniques can receive friendly guidance. Suggested setups include a 7'6" 3-weight for smaller water or up to a 10' 5-weight for tight-line nymphing on the Little River. An 8 or 9 foot 4 or 5 weight covers most situations. It may still be possible to wet wade, but plan on having waders. Conditions tend to be drier in October, and dry fly fishing with October caddis may be productive. If rain occurs before or during the trip, nymphing or streamer approaches can be especially effective. Participants who need equipment can request boots, waders, fly rods, or flies in the RSVP at least five days in advance. Lodging is encouraged at Little Arrow Outdoor Resort, with group dinners planned for Friday and Saturday nights.
