The route offers the steady sound of moving water and calm creek views, and it travels on a wide, well maintained gravel path with a gradual incline. The first stretch is shared with horses. Campgrounds are located near the trailhead and around the midpoint of the trail. The hike begins inside Smokemont Campground at the far end of D Loop.
