Trick, Treat & Meet the Freaks: A Costume Cookout & Hike

    Nashville · Edwin Warner Park

A playful, spooky-spirited cookout and group hike lands at Edwin Warner Park Shelter 2 in Nashville, blending a shared meal with a costume trek on the trails. The format is potluck, and a $5 reservation paid in advance secures a spot and helps cover the site; payments are collected via Venmo @debbiekrumpe or PayPal, and spots are confirmed once payment is received. A coordinated sign-up will balance the menu so there is real food alongside desserts. Three volunteer cooks and a few portable grills will anchor the setup, while everyone else contributes something to share. Suggested contributions include burgers, hot dogs and buns, chips and dips, pasta or potato salad, baked beans, veggie and fruit trays, cookies and brownies, drinks such as water or soda, and paper goods like plates, napkins and utensils. Bringing enough for the group is encouraged, and matching a dish to a costume adds extra fun. Costumes follow an outdoors theme, so anything that belongs in the woods, on a mountain or river, or on a survival show fits the brief. Ideas range from Crocodile Hunter, lumberjack, park ranger, hunter or angler, over-the-top hiker, camper, forest fairy, Bigfoot, Smokey Bear, national park tourist with a fanny pack, survivalist or doomsday prepper, mountain traveler, kayaker, river otter, tree hugger, bird watcher, trail crew member, lost backpacker, camp counselor, or a wild animal. Something off-theme can still work with a hiking twist. Safety comes first, so costumes that rely on stilts, full-body latex, zero visibility, or anything likely to trigger a rescue should be rethought. Expect a relaxed cookout, plenty of shared dishes and lighthearted ribbing, followed by a group hike in full costume to walk off the feast.

    Brassfield and more

    Nashville · Chief's on Broadway, 200 Broadway

A Nashville rooted lineup pairs country harmony with Southern soul as Brassfield shares the bill with Matt Warren & The Goodfoot. Brassfield is a family trio of brothers Bradley and Chadley Brassfield with Jessie Rose Brassfield, whose seamless three part blend reflects deep musical roots. The brothers grew up in Tupelo, Mississippi, singing across the South before heading to Nashville, where they met Lexington, Kentucky native Jessie, a lifelong singer, pianist, and songwriter from a musical family that includes her father, JP Pennington of Exile. Their voices clicked, Jessie and Chadley married, and the group became a sought after act around Music City, frequently performing and earning credits opening for Chris Stapleton, Little Big Town, Lady A, Sarah Evans, Jeff Foxworthy, Trace Adkins, The Frontmen, Barenaked Ladies, Ernest, and Exile. They were handpicked by Peyton Manning to perform at his benefit for the Pat Summitt Foundation, first made their mark as the house band at the Opry Backstage Grill while hosting songwriter nights, and all three write songs of their own. Chadley Brassfield is a recent Grammy honoree for songwriting, and the trio has signed with Clearwater Records. Matt Warren & The Goodfoot is led by chart topping songwriter and soul singer Matt Warren, fronting an ever changing ensemble of respected Nashville players with a sound steeped in Southern soul. Warren’s career spans ASCAP Awards, an ACM Song of the Year nod, and a country radio Number 1 with Gary Allan’s Every Storm (Runs Out of Rain). His recent solo project, Heartbreak Superstar, created with Oscar Charles and Cliff Audretch, draws on R&B, soul, and southern influences, highlighting a gritty, lived in voice and stories shaped by personal renewal. Expect tight harmonies, southern stories, and a blend of country, soul, Tennessee twang, and Laurel Canyon hues from artists deeply connected to Nashville.
