Defender Outdoors Clay Sports Ranch presents a four week sporting clays league created to help dove hunters and clay shooters sharpen skills ahead of the season. League scoring is based on 50 targets each week, and participants can warm up or wind down on the practice course and the five stand before or after their rounds. Targets are set by course managers Gary Madigan and Christian Daniels. Shoot as part of a team or as an individual. Teams consist of four to six shooters, weekly team totals count the top four scores with handicap, and rosters must be finalized by the end of the first week. Individuals will be grouped to form teams, and each shooter may compete for only one team during the league. Weekly rounds can be completed within a designated window. The fee is 180 dollars for the full four weeks and includes a League Party with dinner and awards, with members receiving a 10 percent discount. Early registration before the first week enters participants into a drawing for 100 free targets. During the League Party, there will be a drawing from those present for a free entry into the following league. The top five shooters advance to a final on League Party night, where 25 additional targets are added to each finalist’s league handicap total to decide the winner. Individual awards include High Overall and Runner Up, A Class and B Class first, High Junior and Runner Up Junior, placements for Lady shooters through fourth, and Most Improved. Team awards include overall first and second, A Class first place, and High Lady Team. Handicaps are recalculated weekly using a par of 45. Subtract the shooter’s score from par, multiply the difference by 70 percent, then add that amount to the score. The maximum counted score with handicap is 45. If a scheduled session is missed, a banked round must be completed by the end of that week or an average of two other weeks will be applied. The same approach is used for weather related cancellations.
