McMurtry’s latest project, The Black Dog and the Wandering Boy on New West Records, is a ten song collection co-produced with Don Dixon and includes contributions from Sarah Jarosz, Charlie Sexton, Bonnie Whitmore, and Bukka Allen, alongside his bandmates Cornbread, Tim Holt, and Daren Hess, with BettySoo on backing vocals. The songs draw on family memories and artifacts, including a Ken Kesey sketch used for the cover and stories connected to his father, writer Larry McMurtry. His previous New West release received praise from Uncut, and Pitchfork gave it an 8.0.

This Oregon company crafts original, full-length shows using puppetry, live music, and video. Launched as a one-night Halloween cabaret in 2015, the group continued to develop new work and has since created about half a dozen original musicals, from stories of supernatural beings to rampaging robots to solitary sasquatches, performing to packed houses around the country. This is a seated event.
