    Paramount Veteran Salute

    Bristol · Paramount , 518 State St

Presented by First Bank & Trust Company, this salute highlights the artistry of the Shades of Blue Jazz Ensemble, an 18 member ensemble of enlisted professionals whose music travels from classic big band, bebop, and swing to contemporary jazz. Their concerts weave works by today’s composers with timeless sounds associated with figures like Count Basie and Glenn Miller, and the group often features original pieces and arrangements written by its own members. Over the years they have shared the stage with artists such as Tex Benecke, Denis DiBlasio, Jamey Aebersold, Mike Smith, Bobby Shew, Allen Vizzutti, Jeff Jarvis, Mike Vax, Vaughn Nark, Bill Porter, Carmen Bradford, Shelley Berg, Joe Morello, Steve Houghton, and Walt Levinsky, and they are frequently invited to perform at jazz clinics and festivals around the country. Their appearances have ranged from national anthems at Chicago White Sox games to performances at Chicago Bulls and Milwaukee Bucks games, and they regularly honor the Air Force’s musical legacy, including a collaboration with actor Wilford Brimley in tribute to Major Glenn Miller. Whether playing for leaders, full houses in northern Wisconsin, or service members at home and abroad, the ensemble brings a spirit of pride and tradition connected to the United States Air Force.
