Big Something brings its genre-blending rock show to 5PTS Outdoors at The Dog Bowl. Tickets from the Grateful for Biggie event will be accepted, and children 12 and under get in free. Musicians and music lovers gather on the grassy area across from the lower observation deck at Mill Mountain Star to share songs and celebrate music together. Both originals and covers are encouraged, and participants range from touring professionals to those who have never performed on a stage. Listeners are invited to enjoy the music even without playing or singing. Plan to park in the lower lot near the lower deck and bring a folding chair, a cool beverage, and bug spray. Expect a laid-back atmosphere with a refreshing breeze and views from high above the city. Start times shift with the season, beginning in the afternoon and adjusting as days grow longer and hotter. If the weather does not cooperate, the plan is to use the Discovery Center first or the picnic shelter behind the Star just off the path. In the case of severe conditions such as thunder, lightning, or high winds, the gathering relocates to 3rd Street Coffeehouse. Now in its 40th year, 3rd Street Coffeehouse is a volunteer-run nonprofit listening room with no cover charge. Contributions to the tip bucket are appreciated when possible and help sustain the music, though everyone is welcome whether or not they can contribute.
