Realistic Routines and Strategies for Change

Building new habits often feels hard even with the best intentions. This practical workshop, led by Azalea, focuses on executive functioning, the set of mental skills that guide planning, prioritizing, starting tasks, and following through. Together, participants will look at how stress, anxiety, ADHD, trauma, and everyday pressures can disrupt these skills, why familiar habit advice can miss the mark, and how to create routines that feel doable and truly fit the way the brain works. The session shares evidence-informed tools like habit stacking and Ticket Theory, along with ways to tap into play, pleasure, interest, novelty, challenge, community, and urgency, known as PINCH, so habits become more motivating and enjoyable. Attendees leave with clear, compassionate strategies for routines that are flexible, realistic, and sustainable without leaning on perfectionism or sheer willpower. It is well suited for adults with ADHD, busy professionals, parents, students, and anyone interested in building healthier habits and greater consistency.

Summer Strings Camp

Session 2 of the Summer Strings camp, part of the ICCA Chamber Music Festival, welcomes students entering grades 6 through 12 to study with professional musicians and educators from across the country, including artists from the Nashville Symphony Orchestra. Directed by Hoi Ting Davidson and Jenaesha Browder, this week-long experience takes place in a scenic setting and features small ensemble coaching, a deep focus on fundamentals and classical repertoire, private lessons, and faculty-led masterclasses that lead to a final concert at the end of the week. Middle and high school string players with at least two years of experience are encouraged to participate, including violin, viola, cello, and string bass. To help with chamber placement, applicants are asked to submit a one to two minute video featuring a scale of their choice and a short solo or piece they have been working on. Submissions may be sent by email. When recording, ensure the entire body and instrument are visible in the frame. An overnight option is available. Faculty includes Hoi Ting Davidson and Andrew Dunlap on violin, Anthony Parce on viola, and Jenaesha Browder on cello, with string bass faculty to be announced.

The Hatchery Star Party

WVAC’s flagship star party welcomes the entire community, from first-time stargazers to advanced amateurs, at Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery. No registration is required. Every attendee is greeted by a WVAC member to explain how the evening works and to help newcomers get oriented. Bring a telescope for tips on setup and use, or come without one and explore the night sky through members’ instruments. Look for red lanterns beneath member telescopes and feel free to ask, “Whatchya Looking at?” Each telescope will be pointed at something different, and questions are encouraged, from big-picture astronomy to advice on what gear to buy. Experienced observers can connect with fellow astronomers from the community. Park in the hatchery’s lot just outside the gate and do not drive past the gate unless prior permission has been given, for example if you need to set up a telescope. The observing area sits just beyond the main building, about 50 yards from the parking lot. Walk past the gates along the main roadway until you see the red illuminated sign board. Arriving on time helps with introductions, and attendees may stay as long as they like. Admission is free. Donations are appreciated and support the Friends of the Hatchery in installing a Sky Quality Meter to track changes in light pollution. Please avoid white light during the program. Red-lensed lights are allowed, and white light is reserved for emergencies. Dress for the weather and possible wind, and consider insect repellent. Restrooms in the main building will be available when USFWS staff are on site. The star party may be canceled due to inclement weather, with updates posted on the WVAC events calendar.

2026 Nile Valley Rally

Now in its 11th year, the Nile Valley Rally embraces a playful Tacky Tourist theme that pays homage to Route 66. Set at Jim Sprick Park in the Chinook Pass area, participants can unwind beside the Naches River and spend nights camping under the stars in the nearby mountains around Naches, Washington. Celebrate the close of summer with a community health campout at Lake Wenatchee State Park in Eastern Washington. The gathering is easygoing, welcoming to beginners, and dog friendly, creating space to reconnect with community, nature, and self. Set in the foothills of the North Cascades near the tourist town of Leavenworth, the park sits within Wenatchee National Forest. Brittany Jean is based in a small apple town along the Columbia River in Washington. In recent years her travels have included the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, Tennessee, as well as an opening spot for Three Dog Night at a sold-out show in New York City. Settle in on the shoreline at Lake Wenatchee State Park for an evening of stargazing where WVAC members guide an exploration of the night sky. Expect a relaxed program that welcomes big astronomy questions, with conversation ranging from our nearby solar system to distant and dramatic celestial objects. Each session in this series is different and shaped for inquisitive minds. Depending on the wind, the experience may feature telescope viewing or a guided tour of the constellations. The gathering takes place at the South Park entrance in the South Beach Day Use Area. Registration is available by calling 509-763-3101 or by emailing Lake.wenatchee@parks.wa.gov. The program is free, though parking requires a Discover Pass or a $10 daily permit, and free Discover Passes may be borrowed through the NCW Library of Things. Dress in layers to stay comfortable, and bring a blanket or a chair for lounging on the beach. Please keep white lights off unless needed for emergencies and use red lights instead, and park vehicles facing away from the beach to prevent headlights from shining on the viewing area. 2026 Kittitas County Fair Market Sale

Gain lifesaving skills at a free CPR class offered by Cascade Medical’s Emergency Medical Services Department. Open to ages 8 and up, the session covers CPR techniques that use chest compressions to maintain blood flow when the heart stops, along with an overview of automated external defibrillators and how they can help restore a heartbeat. Instructors will include the American Heart Association’s updates released in late 2025. The class also shares information about community AEDs and how participants can support access to them. Halloween Hootenanny WE Shows 1 & 2

Celebrate working equitation at Appleatchee Riders Association, a USAWE affiliate set below Saddle Rock in Wenatchee, Washington. This three day gathering features two USAWE licensed shows along with a cattle trial, with phases that include dressage, ease of handling, speed, and cattle work. The show is planned outdoors, weather permitting, with the option to move into the indoor arena if needed. To compete, riders must hold current USAWE memberships and horses must be recorded, while schooling-only entries are exempt from this requirement. A seminar with Sarah Bradley is offered, with private dressage sessions available for 120, obstacle sessions priced at 100 per rider for groups of three or 80 per rider for groups of four, and lessons with Judge Andre Ganc to be announced. A potluck and cocktail hour in the clubhouse welcomes participants, friends, and family, and everyone is encouraged to bring a dish or beverage to share. Every competitor receives a welcome bag, and a professional photographer will be on site. Entry fees for Appleatchee members are 250 for one show with an additional 125 for a second show, and for nonmembers are 250 for one show with an additional 150 for a second show. The cattle trial is 100 for levels 2 through 7. Stabling is 33 per night and includes one bag of shavings, with additional shavings available for 15 each. Camping with electric and water hookups is 37 per night, and dry camping is 25 per night. Ribbons are awarded through seventh in each division and level, with a prize for first place. High point honors across both shows recognize the top dressage score, the top ease of handling score, and the fastest speed round. Cattle teams are assigned by show management and team requests may be considered based on participation, with cattle trial ribbons awarded through fifth in each show. Entries are open. After submitting an entry, payment options will be provided and entries must be paid in full. Refunds may be available with a doctor or veterinarian note, or in cases of extreme extenuating circumstances, prior to the published deadline. Central Cello Celebration 2026

A biennial gathering of Northwest cellists at the CWU Music Department, this celebration welcomes players of every age to dive into the cello repertoire and come together in a large cello choir. This edition highlights the idea of Heroes with the premiere of Tom Walworth’s Marvel from A to X, performances of heroic themes from across the literature, and tributes to the quiet champions in our lives, especially teachers and parents. Featured artist and clinician Dr. Minna Rose Chung leads learning alongside distinguished pedagogues, and the celebration concludes with a Finale Concert. The recitals and final performance will also be available on the department’s YouTube channel, and a Northwest living hero will be honored, to be announced. Participants rehearse and perform in either the Celebration Cello Choir for high school and college musicians or the Debut Cello Choir for intermediate players with at least two years of experience, then all cellists unite for the premiere. High school and collegiate players have opportunities for recitals, workshops, and masterclasses. Recital and small group lesson performance spots are open to all ages with a teacher recommendation, with priority given to high school students for the main masterclasses. Activities include check in, recitals, a meet and greet reception, a Suzuki play down, sectionals, combined rehearsals, a master class with Dr. Chung, sponsor exhibits, optional small group open lessons with faculty, free time for a non hosted dinner at El Caporal Restaurant, and farewells after the concert. All participants complete the standard online registration form. Early bird registration is 95 dollars and regular registration is 120 dollars. Performers who need piano support should arrange their own accompanist or request one of the event’s collaborative pianists. A two-day, women-only photography workshop explores the autumn colors in and around Leavenworth, WA, a Bavarian village, with outings that include the Lake Wenatchee area. Designed for nature lovers and photographers of all experience levels, it offers a relaxed, welcoming environment where questions are encouraged and creativity is the focus. The small group format, limited to six participants, ensures personalized, one-on-one coaching. Participants will practice capturing vibrant foliage, mountain and river reflections, thoughtful compositions, and challenging light, with a touch of post-processing guidance as well. The plan begins with a short Zoom session ahead of the weekend to review core camera fundamentals so everyone arrives ready to shoot. Day one centers on early light at Lake Wenatchee State Park, followed by stops along Highway 2 to photograph favorite viewpoints and hidden gems at peak color. A riverfront sunset session caps the day, with an optional after-dark shoot in the illuminated town of Leavenworth. Day two starts with sunrise along the river, then an easy stroll through riverfront parks and trails such as Enchantment Park and Blackbird Island. After a lunch break, the group visits the Wenatchee River Institute and continues up Icicle Road to focus on river scenes and long exposures. The workshop concludes in the early afternoon, and a follow-up Zoom provides time to share images, get simple editing tips, and receive gentle, optional feedback. Included are guided sessions, location scouting, hands-on instruction throughout, and both the pre- and post-workshop Zooms. Transportation, lodging, food and drink, and photography gear are not included, though carpooling and room-share coordination can be arranged. Attendees should bring a DSLR or mirrorless camera, a selection of lenses with a wide-angle option recommended, a sturdy tripod, suggested filters such as a circular polarizer and graduated neutral density, extra batteries and memory cards, and comfortable, weather-appropriate footwear.
