WVAC’s flagship community star party at Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery welcomes everyone, from the simply curious to seasoned amateurs. There is no registration, and attendance is free. Optional donations support Friends of the Hatchery in funding a Sky Quality Meter to help measure changes in light pollution. Bring a telescope for hands-on guidance or to share views, or come without one and explore the night sky through a variety of member instruments. Look for red lanterns marking member telescopes, and feel free to ask what each scope is viewing. The evening fosters connections among local astronomers and offers space to ask anything from big astronomy questions to practical advice on choosing a telescope. WVAC volunteers greet attendees on arrival and explain how the event flows. Arriving at the beginning helps with introductions, and you can stay as long as you like. Park in the hatchery lot outside the gate and avoid driving beyond it unless you have prior permission, for example if you are unloading a telescope. The observing area is just past the main building, a short walk from the lot along the main roadway, and identified by a red, illuminated sign. To preserve night vision, use red light only and keep white lights for emergencies. Dress for the weather and possible wind, and consider insect repellent. Restrooms may be available in the main building when staff are present. The star party depends on clear skies and may be canceled due to inclement weather.

A two day clinic focused on horsemanship welcomes riders of all experience levels and disciplines. Settle onto the sand with a blanket or chair at Lake Wenatchee State Park’s South Park entrance, South Beach Day Use Area, for an evening of stargazing and conversation. WVAC members will field big questions and guide an exploration that ranges from the familiar sights of our Solar System to immense and dynamic celestial objects. Every session in this series is different and tailored to curious, imaginative participants. Depending on wind conditions, the night may focus on telescope viewing or shift to a guided constellation tour. The program is free, though parking requires a Discover Pass or a $10 daily permit, and a Discover Pass may be available to borrow through the NCW Library of Things. Dress for cool or breezy weather. To protect night vision, limit white lights to emergencies and bring red lights when possible, and park facing away from the beach to reduce glare when arriving or leaving. Plans may change with weather. If clouds or high winds interfere, the program may be modified or cancelled and registered participants will be notified no later than two hours beforehand. Park gates close at dusk, and registration grants permission to pass through closed gates. Please close them after entering or leaving. It is a single evening dedicated to a single cause, with compassion at the forefront through music and giving.

Each day offers multiple distances, ranging from 37 miles with 2,800 feet of elevation gain to 56 miles with 5,000 feet of climbing. Riders receive on-course SAG support and a planned lunch stop during the rides. Many segments follow the route used for the Lake Chelan Century Challenge held in late summer. Participation is capped at 200 riders for a more social, close-knit experience.

Appleatchee Riders Association hosts a multi day working equitation gathering featuring two USAWE licensed shows and a cattle trial. Competition includes dressage, ease of handling, and speed, with working equitation Levels 1 through 5 offered, and the cattle trial open to Levels 2 through 7. The show is planned outdoors, with the option to move inside if weather requires. A potluck and cocktail hour in the club house will welcome participants, friends, and family, and guests are encouraged to bring a dish or beverage to share. Competitors must hold current USAWE membership and horses must be recorded, with this requirement waived for schooling entries. Fees are set at $250 for one show for both members and non members, with members adding a second show for $125 and non members adding a second show for $150. The cattle trial is $100 for eligible levels. Stabling is $33 per night and includes one bag of shavings, with additional shavings available for $15. Camping with electric and water hookups is $37 per night, and dry camping is $25 per night. Every competitor receives a welcome bag. Ribbons are awarded through seventh place for each division and level, with a prize for first place. High point awards across both shows recognize the top dressage score, top ease of handling score, and fastest speed round. Cattle teams are assigned by show management, with team requests considered based on participation, and cattle trial ribbons are awarded through fifth place for each show. A professional photographer will be on site. Officials include Judge Andre Ganc, r, and Technical Delegate Sarah McColm. Payment in full is required by the posted deadline, and refunds may be available before that date with a doctor or veterinarian note or in cases of extreme extenuating circumstances.
