The Puget Sound Estuarium and the Deschutes Estuary Restoration Team (DERT) lead a walking loop around the downtown core to trace how Olympia’s shoreline has changed over time. Along the way, participants explore the geologic forces that formed the estuary, the Native tribes who have stewarded these lands, and how the estuary helped shape the city seen today. The stroll also highlights the restoration plan for Capitol Lake and explains why healthy estuaries are vital to ecosystem health.

At the Haagen Food Courst, this fiction critique session invites writers to share short pieces and exchange thoughtful feedback. Bring several copies of a 4 to 6 page work, read it aloud, then listen as the group begins by noting strengths and follows with questions, areas that may be unclear, and constructive suggestions.

This waterfront Latin dance gathering highlights salsa, cumbia, bachata, and merengue. A lesson is led by instructors from SPICY together with Chayanne Montiel, and DJ Santos provides the music. Spend a summer evening by the water enjoying lively rhythms, a welcoming community spirit, and time with friends and family.

This intermediate youth sailing class is for kids ages 8 to 12 who’ve already taken one to two beginner sailing sessions and can steer the boat and trim the sails on their own. Each day focuses on building solid sailing fundamentals while introducing more intermediate skills and challenges. Students will sail by themselves in Optis, 8-foot-long single-person boats, with sailing games and activities included to keep things fun. Swimming is required, and students always wear lifejackets.

This outdoors-focused camp teaches kids how to be true outdoorsmen. The main activities include fishing, archery, and foraging, with skill-building around food acquisition. Fishing lessons may cover baiting, cleaning, and cooking, plus gear and casting. Foraging includes plant identification and safe harvesting, and archery practice includes safety, practical use, and form. Camp runs daily from morning to late afternoon, and participants should bring appropriate clothing, snacks, and lunch.

This LEGO robotics camp is for kids ages 9-14 who are ready to take their building and programming skills further. Campers will use LEGO Spike Prime technology and project plans to construct robotic creations, then program them on tablets to perform different actions. Over the week, kids focus on robotics fundamentals, coding, and problem-solving. Each camper will make and take home a mini-figure and a photo collage from the week. Bring a snack and a water bottle.

This teen sailing class is the next step up from beginner level. Students will reinforce core sailing skills and learn new techniques while continuing to sail two-person boats, rotating between positions to build advanced boat handling. Part of Lacey in Tune, a free, family-friendly entertainment series at Huntamer Park, this event features indie singer and songwriter Lindsay Quella Kara. Based in the Pacific Northwest, Lindsay crafts songs shaped by nature and small-town roots, blending Americana, reflective folk and roots traditions, with touches of pop and soul. She began releasing music in 2020 and followed with another single in 2024, and she now collaborates with fellow artists in Portland studios. A multidisciplinary creator, she relies on a resonant voice and grounded presence to spark connection, meaningful relationships and genuine expression.

Designed for seniors, this calm storytime offers read-aloud moments alongside Hallie, a certified therapy dog who enjoys a good tale and a friendly scratch. Guests can simply listen or share brief passages from books, essays, or poetry, choosing whatever feels meaningful in the moment. Time with therapy dogs is linked to reduced stress, lower blood pressure, and a sense of calm and connection. Dive into MIG welding fundamentals in a project-centered evening session led by certified welder and fabricator Daniel Schepers of Elite Welding and Design. Across three hours, participants practice safe machine operation along with techniques for welding joints, grinding, and finishing while creating a take-home piece. Choose a project such as a rocket stove, lantern, geometric bowl, wine rack, or a dice. Materials are provided to complete one rocket stove, lantern, or dice. Daniel’s company is a veteran family owned, W.A.B.O certified operation with more than a decade of welding and fabrication experience. Attendees are asked to select the ticket that matches their chosen project so the proper materials can be prepared in advance. Completing this course, or a Basics class, fulfills the equipment proficiency requirement for Lacey MakerSpace members who need authorization for independent use.
