The pace is unhurried on mostly flat gravel and dirt paths, with frequent pauses to examine discoveries and consider which creatures may have passed through. Ideal for newcomers to tracking as well as the simply curious, it offers a welcoming way to see the preserve from a fresh perspective while spending time outdoors with community. There is no cost to attend, and no parking pass or RSVP is needed. The meeting point is the kiosk within the preserve. An ADA compliant portable toilet is available nearby, and some portions of the route have limited shade. Wear sturdy walking shoes, bring water, and dress for the weather. Overflow parking will be available for participants, and arriving early enough to park and walk to the kiosk will help the group begin together. This program is part of the monthly Second Saturdays series at Bayshore Preserve, with each session highlighting a different nature topic and welcoming people of all ages to learn, explore, and connect with the outdoors and with community.

Her background includes reporting for The Seattle Times and The Los Angeles Times, senior leadership at a global communications firm, studies at the University of Michigan, and a museum studies certificate from the University of Washington with a focus on oral history. Joy introduces where to begin with genealogy at any experience level, exploring FamilySearch, Ancestry, and Ancestral Quest to help attendees navigate key tools with confidence. Her dedication to preservation began early and has continued through nearly four decades directing the LDS FamilySearch Center in Elma.
