    Kalos Concert

Mt Vernon · Littlefield Celtic Center, 1124 Cleveland Ave

Kalos is a cross-generational acoustic trio rooted in Celtic tradition, featuring Ryan McKasson on violin and viola, Eric McDonald on guitar and mandolin, and Jeremiah McLane on accordion and piano, with all three contributing vocals. Their partnership grew from connections at highland games, contra dances and fiddle camps across North America. After releasing their first recording in 2016, they have toured together since 2019, shaping concerts around intricate interplay, spontaneity and careful attention to the sound of each room. Their name comes from an ancient Greek word meaning beautiful or praiseworthy, and their approach blends precision with energy. Using resonant acoustic instruments, they honor shared Scottish roots while venturing beyond conventional Celtic boundaries. Observers highlight a lively onstage chemistry where musical lines challenge, merge and resolve as the trio locks in. Past appearances include the Lotus Festival, New Bedford Folk Festival, New World Festival, Old Town School of Folk Music, Seattle Folklore Society and more, and they have taught workshops and masterclasses at Tufts University, the Celtic Arts Foundation and the Valley of the Moon Scottish Fiddle School. Tickets are $30 for general admission and $25 for CAF members. Refreshments will be available for purchase. All ticket sales are final and cannot be refunded.

Artists should be alert to social media scams, as participation is handled only through the organizers’ official website and both holiday markets are currently full with a waitlist in place. The organizers will not request payment or registration by email or messenger, will not comment on posts claiming openings, and the host behind Creative Avenue Markets is Frannie Bigge, so listings from other names should be treated as spam.

The program explores the shift from restrictive styles to more liberating designs, showing how comfort, freedom, and function in what is worn beneath clothing reflect broader social changes. It also considers why opinions about these garments have sparked such strong reactions over time and looks beneath the satin and silk to connect this ongoing evolution with the wider pursuit of gender equality.

    Free Scottish Country Dance Class

Mt Vernon · Littlefield Celtic Center, 1124 Cleveland Ave

    Free

Experience Scottish Country Dancing in a free class at Littlefield Celtic Center. This social tradition grew from story and ritual dances and was later shaped by influences from the French court during the reign of James V through Mary of Guise. It thrived into the 19th century, then gave way to the waltz and quadrille, and saw a strong revival in the 20th century with the founding of the Scottish Country Dance Society in 1923 and its 1951 royal charter as the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society. The repertoire continues to expand with new dances and tunes each year. This multi level session includes step practice and teaching of dances. The plan is 45 minutes centered on beginners, followed by 30 minutes of social dancing open to everyone, and a concluding 45 minutes for those with more experience. Instruction follows a step by step approach that reviews and builds on previously introduced skills. Absolute beginners are welcome. No partner is required and no special attire is needed. Comfortable clothing works well. Soft soled shoes, such as ballet or jazz styles, can make it easier to move and to point the toes, but they are optional. The class features social dancing to traditional music in teams of six or eight, blending energy and grace with a touch of courtly style, and it suits a wide range of ages and experience.
