Lights for Peace is an evening program at Manhattan Project National Historical Park that marks the atomic bombings of Japan and offers a chance to remember and reflect. The event includes music from the Mid-Columbia Mastersingers, a guest speaker, and an opportunity to ring a peace bell. Guests can also take part in a quiet, contemplative walk along a path lit with luminarias. Seating isn’t provided, so bringing a chair or blanket is recommended.

An open jam and hands-on workshop welcomes all veterans at the Columbia Basin Veterans Center. The gathering begins with 30 to 45 minutes of guided instruction on a new guitar skill for beginners, then shifts into roughly an hour of playing together with optional singing. Loaner instruments are on hand, so not having a guitar is okay. No experience is needed, and the goal is for participants to be able to play a song by the end. It is also a chance to meet others involved in the program. Song requests are welcome so they can be added to the songbook.
