A free self defense series created for the LGBTQ+ community takes place at Beartooth Aikido Studio, presented by PFLAG BF. Everyone is welcome, and no previous experience is required. Participants practice strategies for handling confrontations to build confidence and preparedness. If you have attended before, the sessions offer opportunities to reinforce and expand the skills you have already learned. Safety 101 introduces ways to navigate both physical and emotional conflict through the principles of Aikido. Aikido, developed by Morihei Ueshiba in the early 20th century, centers on protecting your surroundings, your partners, and yourself. Training includes relaxation techniques for stressful moments, becoming comfortable with people in close proximity, methods to avoid being struck, and beginner-friendly rolling. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing such as a T-shirt or sweatshirt with sweatpants, and avoid jewelry that could catch or scratch. Bring your preferred drink for hydration. Shoes are not worn on the mats, so socks or bare feet are appropriate. Registration is requested, and an online release form should be completed before the seminar. Explore the Columbia River corridor on a guided 17-mile bike ride led by National Park rangers and REACH educators. The meeting point is the tennis courts at Leslie Groves Park in Richland, and the route follows a scenic stretch of the Sacagawea Heritage Trail from Richland Parkway to the REACH Museum, then returns. Along the way, riders hear stories that connect the region’s history, science, and landscape. During the museum stop, take part in interactive activities, learn about the Manhattan Project, and discover the area’s plants, wildlife, and ecosystems. Full access to the exhibits is included. The ride moves at a moderate pace. Participants should be comfortable riding 17 miles, bring water and snacks, wear a helmet which is strongly recommended, make sure their bike is in good working order, and plan for summer weather. Competitors enter a single pot for judging and may cook any style of chili. Teams supply their own cooking equipment, fuel, ingredients, condiments, tables, chairs, and an optional tent, with about a 10 by 10 foot space provided. Ingredients must be prepared on site except for permitted canned or bottled items and pre-cut or ground meat, and meat cannot be pre-cooked. Each team should plan enough for 100 public tasting samples of roughly 5 to 6 ounces. Clean, organized stations and sanitary glove use are required, and teams are responsible for site cleanup and safely extinguishing fires. Sample cups, spoons, and napkins are provided. Failure to meet sanitation standards or the use of abusive language can lead to disqualification, and products for disqualified participants are not reimbursed. Build practical skills to recognize and respond to first aid needs as well as breathing and cardiac emergencies for adults, children, and infants in a blended Adult and Pediatric First Aid, CPR, and AED course. This training is intended for those who need a certification that satisfies OSHA or other regulatory requirements. Start with an online module on a phone, tablet, or computer, then complete an instructor-led skills session. Successful completion results in a digital certificate valid for two years in Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED. The in person portion takes place in the HomeTeams Classroom. PFLAG’s SAFE Social is a monthly gathering at the PFLAG Office for LGBTQIA2+ adults and their allies. Washington State Horsemen celebrates 85 years with its annual convention at the Clover Island Inn in Kennewick, Washington. Guided by the theme Year of the Horse: A Renaissance of Excellence, the gathering blends Renaissance flair and a Round Table spirit with an emphasis on forward-looking leadership in the equine community. The event brings together horsemen and horsewomen for inspiration, collaboration, and a renewed commitment to excellence across the industry. Jen Howard performs a set that blends folk, roots, reggae, and sophisti-pop. An American artist from Prestonsburg, Kentucky, she writes and sings her own songs while playing multiple instruments. Her lyrics explore human nature, love, brave determination, and mindful compassion for ourselves and others. Her catalog includes the debut EP Motion from 2019 and the album Still released in March 2024. She has brought her music to audiences across the United States and abroad, including Canada, Germany, Iceland, the Netherlands, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Peru.

Veterans are welcome to an open jam and hands-on guitar workshop at the Columbia Basin Veteran Center, offering a relaxed setting to play, learn, and connect with others involved in the program. Spare guitars will be available for anyone without an instrument, and no prior experience is required. The session begins with about 30 to 45 minutes of guided instruction on a new skill, then transitions into roughly an hour of playing together with optional singing. The aim is for participants to be able to play a song by the end, with a lesson promised if that goal is not met. Song requests are accepted in advance so they can be added to the song list.

PFLAG BF presents a free series focused on self defense for the LGBTQ+ community at Beartooth Aikido Studio. No prior experience is required, and those who have attended before can continue building on skills from earlier sessions. Safety 101 offers an introduction to handling physical and emotional conflict through the principles of Aikido, a Japanese martial art founded by Morihei Ueshiba in the early 20th century that emphasizes caring for others, your training partners, and yourself. Expect practical work on staying calm under pressure, getting comfortable with close personal space, learning how to avoid strikes, and beginning basics of rolling. Wear loose, comfortable clothing such as a T shirt or sweatshirt with sweatpants. Keep protruding jewelry to a minimum to reduce the chance of scratches during practice. Bring water or your preferred drink. Shoes are not worn on the mats, and socks or bare feet are fine. Please register in advance and complete the online release form before attending. Arrive a bit early so the seminar can start on time.

Held on the first Thursday of each month, Youth Night at the Boys & Girls Clubhouse in Pasco offers snacks and activities in a welcoming space. It is open to LGBTQIA+ youth and their allies, ages 13 to 18 only.
