At Viterbo University Fine Arts Center, The Boulevards deliver a vintage rock and roll showcase that salutes the era that reshaped popular music. The UK band, formed in 2018 after its members shared the stage in major touring theatre productions and rock and roll musicals, powers through favorites from the 1950s and early 1960s with sharp musicianship and showmanship. Expect spirited takes on classics associated with Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bill Haley, Cliff Richard, and Little Richard. True to their roots yet alive with a modern spark, they aim to keep audiences on their feet as they continue their worldwide tour and celebrate the enduring spirit of rock and roll.

Now in its fourth year, the Root Down Yoga Mindful Triathlon offers a three-part wellness experience for mind, body, and spirit. This family friendly gathering highlights community, well being, and the surrounding natural environment. The format is untimed and unscored so everyone can move at a comfortable pace, and no prior experience is required. Set at Grandad Bluff Park, the sequence features a 45 minute hike, 45 minutes of yoga with views of La Crosse, and a 15 minute guided meditation. Registration is 30 dollars and includes a T-shirt. Discounts are not available due to set expenses, and refunds are provided only if Root Down Yoga Studio cancels the event. If weather conditions are unsafe, the triathlon may be postponed or cancelled, with decisions shared as quickly as possible by email with participants and on social media. The Sunday Market welcomes the Rotary Lights Kiddie Express for family-friendly rides paired with a community food drive supporting local households. High-need items include peanut butter, canned fruit packed in juice, canned meats, beans such as baked, pork and beans, or black beans, pasta sauce, whole wheat pasta, brown rice, breakfast staples like cereal, oatmeal, or pancake mixes, and low sodium canned soups. Explore the tradition of Byzantine iconography while creating an image of the Holy Prophet Jonah with the whale at the Franciscan Spirituality Center. Under the guidance of noted American iconographer Phil Zimmerman, participants learn the full process of writing an icon, following time-honored methods while working with contemporary materials such as acrylic paints on a gessoed board with gold leaf. All supplies are provided, and each person completes a varnished icon ready to display. This workshop approaches iconography as both a prayerful practice and a disciplined art form rooted in the earliest centuries of Christianity, honored within Orthodox communities and beyond. No prior iconography experience is required, though a basic familiarity with painting and color mixing is helpful. Pricing options include an overnight package at $700 with a private bedroom, all meals, and all supplies, as well as a commuter rate of $575 that covers lunch, dinner, and all supplies. About the instructor: Phil Zimmerman is the owner of St. John of Damascus Icon Studio in Pennsylvania and studied with Richard Osacky, the late Bishop Job of the OCA Diocese of Chicago and the Midwest. He has produced hundreds of icons for churches and private collectors worldwide and has taught more than 2,000 students, some of whom have become noted iconographers. He has offered retreats at the Franciscan Spirituality Center for 25 years.

Fairways Fore Families returns to Cedar Creek with a scramble that blends friendly competition with real community impact. Golfers spend a full day on the course while supporting Safe Families for Children and its volunteer powered work to keep children safe and families together across Western Wisconsin. The experience includes 18 holes with a cart, a post round meal, and on course challenges with prizes, all in a spirit of generosity and good natured fun. Teams of four take part. Participation helps provide hosting, mentoring, resource support, and hope to parents working to stabilize, bringing together golfers, businesses, churches, and neighbors who believe in strengthening families before a challenge becomes a crisis. Sand Traps & Superheroes marks the 64th edition of a golf outing fundraiser at The Golf Club at Cedar Creek. Registration is open for this long-running event that invites golfers to take big swings in support of its fundraising goals.

The 65th Oktoberfest in La Crosse celebrates a long-standing tradition, featuring lively music, colorful parades, and the welcoming spirit of Gemütlichkeit that defines this annual gathering.

This in-person drumming circle at the Franciscan Spirituality Center invites the La Crosse community to explore drum culture in a setting that lifts the spirit and eases the mind. Facilitated by Myquawn Bailey Sr., MS, founder of Drum Iowa, the session welcomes all experience levels. Drums are provided and no prior training is required. The fee is $15. Myquawn brings a therapeutic approach shaped by work with nursing homes, memory care centers, art centers, and community organizations across Iowa. Raised in Waterloo, he first encountered drum culture in his family church, later deepening his practice with hand drumming while in Egypt. After returning to the United States in 2015, he worked with at-risk youth in residential treatment and developed a behavior-focused curriculum that uses drumming to help young people understand cognitive distortion.

Failure to Launch returns to La Crosse for a lively set at one of the country’s most celebrated Oktoberfest gatherings, performing in the main stage tent at the Southside fest grounds. QuiltFest on the Mississippi brings a biannual celebration of quilting to the Onalaska Omni Center, presented by the La Crosse Area Quilters. Expect a showcase of hundreds of quilted pieces along with a boutique featuring quilts and handmade goods, vendor booths, basket raffles, a quilt raffle, and demonstrations offered throughout the event. Quilt entries are eligible for cash viewer’s choice awards. The La Crosse Area Quilters also offer membership with monthly meetings, programs and retreats, and opportunities to share work and connect with a community of more than 160 quilters.

Learn the fundamentals of relief woodcarving in a hands-on class led by Kevin Ewing. Each participant works with an 8-by-10-inch basswood block and has use of the necessary tools. Instruction proceeds step by step, beginning with practice cuts on the back of the board and moving on to carving a design on the front. Lunch is provided. Open to ages 12 and up. A $10 materials fee applies. Tuition uses a sliding scale to support access and sustainability. This 24th annual DSAW-La Crosse walk for Down syndrome awareness brings families, friends, and supporters together at RW Houser YMCA in Onalaska to celebrate abilities, build awareness, promote acceptance, and highlight the importance of inclusion. The schedule includes registration and a family festival, a 21 Showcase with an awards ceremony, a coordinated walk on the YMCA trail, and a close that features raffle announcements, with winners required to be present to claim prizes. The festival offers games, bounce houses, face painting, raffles, interactive activities, and more. Registration is $21 per walk participant, and individuals with Down syndrome may register at no cost. Participants who register by the t-shirt deadline are guaranteed an event shirt on walk day, and no extra shirts are ordered after that deadline. Individuals with Down syndrome of all ages are invited to take part in the 21 Showcase and walk the red carpet in front of family, friends, and supporters. Volunteer opportunities are available.

Twice each year, in spring and summer and again in fall and winter, local business owners gather at an independently owned spot for relaxed conversation over refreshments. It is a casual meetup centered on talking shop. There are no fees or formal requirements, everyone covers their own tab, and attendees can stay for the whole time or pop in briefly. Exotic pet owners who can no longer provide care are invited to responsibly hand off their animals at a humane surrender event at the La Crosse Center. Organized by J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue with support from the University of Wisconsin Sea Grant and Water Resources Institutes, it takes place alongside the Upper Midwest Invasive Species Conference, a regional gathering focused on prevention, control, and containment that is commemorating two decades of collaboration. The aim is to offer a safe alternative to releasing unwanted pets, which can cause ecological harm. Animals accepted include fish, invertebrates, reptiles, pet birds, small mammals, and aquarium or pond plants. Please bring animals in sturdy, leakproof, escape-resistant containers that can be left with staff. Domestic pets such as dogs, cats, rabbits, pigs, and chickens are not accepted. Native wildlife taken from the wild is not accepted. Mammals, birds, and reptiles arriving from outside the state must have a valid Certificate of Veterinary Inspection. Expect a few extras, including opportunities to meet animal ambassadors and a photo area featuring rescue animals. Sponsors are welcome and help support rehoming, outreach, and public education. Learn the fundamentals of chip carving with John Carlson in a beginner-friendly class that explores this centuries-old way of decorating wood for both useful and ornamental pieces such as ornaments, boxes, frames, spoons, and more. Start with guided exercises, then select or create a traditional rosette pattern and complete a finished carving of your own. Along the way, you will become familiar with both modern and old-world tools, prepare wood for carving, and practice hand positions that support safety, accuracy, and consistent results. Instruction covers core styles, specific cuts, and how to transfer designs from paper. You will also draft patterns directly onto wood using a compass and ruler, then finish your work by cleaning cuts and applying oils, stains, or varnish. All tools are supplied for use during the class, and participants may try them before deciding to purchase. Knives will be available for $12.50 each, sales tax included. Lunch is provided. Open to ages 8 and up, with youth ages 8 to 12 accompanied by an adult. A $10 materials fee applies. Pet Expo LAX is a charitable celebration of animals and the people who love them, presented by the Alliance of Wisconsin Animal Rehoming Efforts. All admission and raffle proceeds support AWARE’s mission to improve the lives of companion animals across Wisconsin. Meet adoptable animals and discover care tips for cats, dogs, reptiles, and small pets. Featured attractions include Windy Kitty Cat Club’s ACFA Championship & Household Pet Cat Show, the Reptile Education Area with encounters involving snakes, spiders, and lizards, the Small Animal Education Station focused on pocket-pet care, and Kids Place with activities and pet-focused learning for all ages. The Product Showcase and Auction offers a chance to bid on new items from exhibitors, with proceeds benefiting homeless pets in Wisconsin. Personal pets are not allowed, and service animals trained to assist a person with a disability are welcome. No animal sales take place at this event. Tickets are available at the door.

Raising Rainbows is an inclusive playgroup for LGBTQIA+ families that begins at The Center with storytime and a hands-on craft, then continues with a walk to Cameron Park for Muscles in Motion and open play. All are welcome, and activities are especially suited for children ages 3 to 7. First-time families will be asked to sign a general waiver at The Center during their first visit to the group. This program is presented in partnership by The Center, the La Crosse Public Library, The La Crescent Public Library, and The Parenting Place. The Golden Girls return in a brand new stage comedy that finds Sophia out on bail after a DEA bust at Shady Pines, Blanche and Rose launching CreakN, a buzzing seniors-only dating app, and Dorothy working to keep the mayhem under control with help from a much younger, very enthusiastic love interest. The show blends heart and sharp humor as these four friends navigate outrageous new adventures while staying as endearing as ever. A VIP option is available that offers premium seating, a post-show meet and greet with the cast, photo opportunities on the main stage set of the Golden Girls living room, and autographs. The 1st Annual La Crosse Veteran Suicide Awareness Ruck March brings the community to the La Crosse Center for a purposeful march that honors service members and raises awareness about veteran suicide prevention. A registration period is followed by the step off for the ruck. Early bird registration is $30 and prices increase after that. Those who take part in both the Green Bay and La Crosse marches receive a $5 discount on each event. Proceeds benefit H.O.O.A.H. WI’s veteran wellness and suicide prevention programs. Each step carries meaning and every mile pays tribute, turning participation into tangible support for those who served.
