Now in its 11th year, the We Believe Ride brings together ATVs, UTVs, motorcycles, cars, and trucks for a community ride that supports families during the Christmas season. Registration takes place before departure, and the ride sets out afterward. The cost is $10 per rider. The event will be held regardless of weather and is open to all. Along the route, participants can take part in 50/50 raffles at every stop. Bucket raffles will be hosted at Roxy & Rosie’s Railway, with a drawing to follow. All proceeds benefit the We Believe program, which helps families during the Christmas holiday.

At Waupaca Public Library, virologist Thomas Friedrich, PhD, offers a scientist’s perspective on bird flu, focusing on what is known about viruses circulating in dairy cattle. He will explain how viruses move between species and how researchers determine whether a virus could present a pandemic threat. Dr. Friedrich is a professor of virology at UW-Madison who teaches about global health, HIV/AIDS, and emerging infectious diseases. His research teams study how viruses such as influenza, SARS-CoV-2, and Zika adapt to new hosts and cause illness in people. His path to this work began in Wauwatosa, where he grew up admiring Robin Yount and Carl Sagan, started in physics, and discovered infectious disease while reading Laurie Garrett’s The Coming Plague in college.

Drift Test & Tune brings a focused practice day to USAIR Motorsports Raceway, giving drivers structured, lower-pressure seat time that emphasizes learning and steady progress. It is geared toward building consistency, sharpening technique, and developing confidence ahead of more intense competitive formats. Track time alternates between a skid pad and an intermediate course so participants can repeat runs and reinforce skills. Attendance is capped at 30 drivers to help keep lines clean and maximize quality laps. A drivers briefing is required before anyone heads on track, with an additional briefing available later in the day for afternoon-only participants or late arrivals. The day flows from the initial meeting into open sessions, includes a midday break, then continues with more driving before track activity wraps up. Options are available at $160 for a full day or $100 for the afternoon. The focus is on improvement and repetition, not on trophies.

Now in its 56th year, this open air market at the Shawano County Fairgrounds brings together antiques, collectibles, crafts, vintage and mid century modern pieces, gardening items, advertising memorabilia, old toys, and more. Admission is $2, with free entry for children 12 and under when accompanied by an adult. Early buyer admission is available for $10. Tickets are available at the event, and parking is free. Artist Kevin Knopp reflects on more than four decades of creative work rooted in Waupaca, where he has maintained a studio, exhibited widely, earned an MFA, taught, and worked as a piano tuner, with pieces held in public and private collections across Wisconsin. Using images gathered from travel, selections inspired by the Art Institute of Chicago, and examples from his own portfolio, he will share a personal view of the significance of contemporary landscape painting. Presented in conjunction with his exhibition in the Waupaca Library Gallery, the talk considers how time, nostalgia, place, and social and political histories shape the way we see the landscapes around us.
