It takes place at The Frank & Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center, an institution committed to preserving and sharing the state’s cultural heritage. Admission is free and the experience is open to all ages. Visitors can browse artisan vendors, listen to guest speakers, enjoy live music, sample fare from food trucks, and find exclusive event merchandise created for this year’s celebration. The folklore behind the Vegetable Man traces to a report written in December 1975 by Jennings H. Frederick, who described an encounter with a tall green figure featuring long, suction tipped fingers that drew a blood sample, induced a hypnotic calm, then departed in long bounds accompanied by a humming and whistling sound. Support for the event comes from Marion County CVB, A Dodd Brothers Horror, Mothbrewed, Wulvers Stane Zine, Appodlachia, Appalachian Escapes, Northwoods Bricks, Spring Fox Studios, Stonecraft Collections, Cryptid Strength, and Cryptid Comforts.
