School Readiness at SCM
At SCM, children ages 3 to 5 who are getting ready for TK or preschool can build school readiness through activities that strengthen fine motor skills and social emotional growth. Along with activities held in the classroom, a take-home workbook is provided for kids and caregivers to continue practicing together. In the shadowed streets of Ravenswood Bluff, a storm looms and ominous signs linger near the clocktower while a hidden demon spreads doubt. Careful conversation, sharp intuition, and timely decisions may be the only path to uncovering the truth before evil prevails.

C.S. Lewis' The Screwtape Letters
At Harris Center for the Arts, experience a stage adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ The Screwtape Letters that explores spiritual conflict from a devilish point of view. Set in an elegant infernal office, this production turns moral expectations upside down as Screwtape works to steer a human soul off course. Directed by FPA Founder and Artistic Director Max McLean, it has drawn capacity crowds across major U.S. cities and in London, earned praise from national publications, and been seen by more than half a million people. The performance runs 90 minutes with no intermission. It is recommended for ages 13 and older, and children under 4 are not admitted. A question and answer session follows the show. Magnet Fishing for the Wildlife
This hands-on cleanup at Mather Lake Regional Park focuses on protecting waterbirds by removing abandoned fishing gear with magnets. In partnership with Solano CCC volunteers, attendees use magnets to pull lost hooks and line from the fishing deck and high traffic shoreline spots. Participants may bring a magnet or borrow one on site, courtesy of American River Lost and Found. Sun safety is encouraged, including sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat. Kayaks and paddleboards are welcome for on-water retrieval, with life jackets required. The meeting point is at the picnic tables near the parking lot. 2026 Youth Football Skills Camp
Young athletes entering second through eighth grade can take the field at Vista del Lago High School for a youth football skills camp led by the school’s varsity coaches and players. The program focuses on building strong fundamentals, boosting confidence, and sharpening skills on offense and defense through engaging, hands-on drills. Instruction is no contact and includes guidance on proper tackling technique for a safe learning experience. Lunch will be served in the Vista del Lago varsity locker room, and participants will tour the high school’s football and training facilities. Each athlete receives a camp T-shirt. No pads or helmet are required, and participants should bring plenty of energy and a love for the game. The cost is $85 per athlete.

Juggers Tryouts and Team Practice
The Juggers of the Wasteland’s Blue Team from Northern California is holding league tryouts and team practice at Rusch Community Park in Citrus Heights, near Sacramento. Organizers are recruiting both players and support crew, and they request that interested participants RSVP. Attendees will be assessed on physical fitness, teamwork, discipline, situational awareness and determination. Expect a rigorous session and prepare for variable conditions, since practices continue in rain, heat and wind. COVID vaccination is required. Bring water and sturdy athletic shoes or boots with ankle support, and consider using a cup and mouth guard for added protection. Equipment and armor guidelines will be reviewed during practice and are also discussed in the Jugger Tryouts group. Additional practices may be scheduled based on availability.

Each month features a new level-based caper for levels 1 through 11, and every session runs as its own mission with a different team of operatives. Participants can bring a completed character or arrive with a character concept to build from. The format suits players who have a basic understanding of D&D. New players can get up to speed by attending a beginner-friendly D&D workshop first. The session is led by Justine, who began tabletop gaming in 2007 with Munchkin. After many game nights, a campaign of The Wild Beyond the Witchlight in 2020 sparked ongoing involvement in both playing and GMing. Justine currently plays in two in-house games, runs two campaigns for friends, and playtests for Brieger Creative.

Young artists ages 9 to 12 spend five days designing an original anime character from the ground up. Guided by Teaching Artist Maddy Harlow, participants practice the essentials of character design, emotion and expression, and visual storytelling while working digitally with an iPad Pro and apple pen. The camp suits students who already understand intermediate drawing or illustration concepts or who have taken an anime class before and want to go deeper, and basic experience with digital art or programs is required. All instruction, materials, devices, and software are provided, and every student compiles a professional level portfolio to take home at the end of the session. This program runs Monday through Friday and is not open to anyone under age 9. Pricing is $270 per session, with a Family Level Member price of $199 per session. Scholarships are available for those who need financial assistance.

Puppies under one year can take the AKC STAR Puppy test after completing six classes, which is a helpful first step toward the CGC program. For everyone’s safety and comfort, dogs must remain leashed at all times, dogs in heat are not permitted, and harsh corrections are not allowed. Bring proof of current vaccinations and ID for your dog, high‑value treats, a standard 6‑foot leash, a 15 to 20‑foot long line for distance work, water for both of you, waste bags, and an optional chair. Sac Town Hoedown 2026
Celebrate the season at Sac Town Hoedown, a weekend of dancing, live music, and fall festival fun at The Grounds in Roseville. Take part in line dance and country swing workshops for all levels, beginner and advanced competitions, and social dancing spread across four floors. The programming blends live performances and DJ sets so there is always a place to move. Beyond the dance floors, explore the Fall Artisan and Crafters Market featuring local crafts, seasonal goods, and food. The event centers on community and connection, bringing line dancing, country swing, two step, and more together under one roof while spotlighting local instructors alongside top talent to support growth across the scene. This year includes renowned instructors and choreographers, NCDC swing and line competitions with belt buckle prizes, and the outdoor fall festival atmosphere, sunsets, and vendors that made it memorable in 2025. Enjoy an adults-only night at Serrano Village Green Amphitheater as the Hands4Hope Endless Summer Beach Party raises support for youth-led leadership and service initiatives from Hands4Hope Youth Making A Difference. The festivities include live music by Clean Slate, a catered tropical dinner, local beer and wine, raffles, a silent auction, and a professionally run live auction, all set to a cheerful beach theme. The program also spotlights the past year’s accomplishments by Hands4Hope youth and offers a look at goals for the year ahead. This is the organization’s largest annual fundraiser, with proceeds helping young people develop leadership skills while creating meaningful change for those in the community who need it most. Tickets are available, and additional impact is possible through sponsorships or by donating items for the auctions.

N-Men Racing King of the Hill Series #2 delivers two days of racing for all classes. Entry fee is $50. Registration is available before on-course activities begin each day. The first day focuses on HB, starting with practice for all classes, then moving into qualification rounds and eliminations. Ams, Masters, Women’s and Pros take part in each segment, with awards presented before load-out wraps the day. The second day shifts to TS, opening with practice for all classes and culminating in a best of four runs format for Ams, Masters, Women’s and Pros. Awards close the action, followed by load-out.
