    Jazz at the Library

Woodward Park Branch-Fresno County Public Library, 944 East Perrin Ave, Fresno · verified Oct 9
    Free

JazzFresno, the Fresno County Public Library, KFSR 90.7 FM, and the Woodward Park Friends of the Library present a free, in-person Jazz at the Library program at the Woodward Park branch of the Fresno County Public Library featuring vocalist and composer Chiara Izzi with Kai Lyons in an intimate duo. Drawing on Italian heritage, a deep affinity for Brazilian music, and the perspective of her New York home, Izzi blends classic traditions with a modern sensibility. The set brings fresh interpretations of Italian and American jazz standards from the 1930s onward, uncovers lesser-known pieces that illuminate the musical bond between Italy and the United States, and includes originals shaped by New York’s vitality. Italian-born and based in New York, Izzi performs in Italian, Portuguese, and English, earned first prize at the Montreux Jazz Festival Vocal Competition from a jury led by Quincy Jones, later returned to open for Paco de Lucía, and won an Independent Music Award for Best Jazz Song with Vocals for Circles of the Mind. She has collaborated with Kevin Hays, Chris Potter, Grégoire Maret, Omer Avital, and Nilson Matta, appeared on renowned stages including The Kennedy Center and the Montreux, Aspen, and Sarasota jazz festivals, and released three albums, among them Across the Sea with pianist Kevin Hays, earning recognition from outlets such as DownBeat and JazzTimes. The program highlights her storytelling, versatility, and commitment to cross-cultural conversation. Support for JazzFresno is provided in part by the City of Fresno Measure P Expanded Access to Arts and Culture Fund.
