Knyght Ryder delivers a high-energy mix of 80s and 90s favorites at the historic bandshell in Recreation Park as part of the Summer at the Shell Tuesdays concert series. Expect New Wave and pop rock classics that create a fun, family-friendly atmosphere in Long Beach. Seating options include more than 600 permanent bench seats near the stage, along with expansive lawn areas ideal for picnics on blankets or in low-back lawn chairs. Look for arts and sciences competitions alongside combat tournaments, all run under the Belegarth Book of War. Admission is three cans of food, which will be donated to a local food drive. This is a public beach, so parking may fill quickly and payment for parking is likely. Accessible parking is available but can go fast. The section of shoreline in use is not part of the dog beach. Subtract on the Pier brings its 11-year run of 95 shows to a close with a farewell edition as the pier prepares for a multi-year renovation. Danny Tenaglia, celebrated for marathon journeys across the history of dance music, takes the helm with an extended set to close the season. After capping the 10th anniversary of Love Long Beach Festival with a memorable finale, he now signs off this series. Anton Tumas sets the mood with an extended opening set for the final episode. The dance floor is phone free to encourage full presence. Sound is powered by Subtract in collaboration with Danley Sound Labs. Presented as Subtract On The Pier 095, The Finale unfolds at Belmont Veterans Memorial Pier, at the end of the pier, and is expected to sell out.

Candlelight: The Best of Joe Hisaishi

Experience Joe Hisaishi’s celebrated film music by candlelight inside the Queen’s Salon at The Queen Mary in Los Angeles. A string quartet, the Orchid Quartet, performs themes from Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Castle in the Sky, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, Ponyo, The Wind Rises, and Howl’s Moving Castle in an intimate, multi-sensory setting. The concert lasts 60 minutes. Doors open 45 minutes before the performance and entry is not allowed once the program begins. Seating is assigned upon arrival within each zone. Guests must be at least 8 years old, and anyone under 16 must attend with an adult. The venue is ADA compliant. During Candlelight Spring, a limited number of sessions include a special floral ambiance, while all other sessions use the standard setup.

SoCal Black & Brown Belt Practice

This SoCal black and brown belt practice takes place at CSU Long Beach and is led for this session by Yodan Trung Pham. The monthly series features rotating leadership from Southern California yodans and godans and is typically held around the last Sunday of each month. Training will focus on kata, kihon and kumite highlighted on the monthly training calendar, and the kata of the month is Empi. Open to black and brown belts from Southern California as well as visiting practitioners from other regions. The fee is $10 for brown belts and $15 for black belts, and all proceeds are donated to the Shotokan Ohshima Dojo maintenance fund. On campus parking requires a permit, and curbside parking may be available nearby. Health guidelines recommend vaccination, though it is not required. Please refrain from attending if you have symptoms or recent exposure, and face masks are optional.
