Authors Brian Conroy and Bill Guardino will talk about their book, South Bay Flashback, which explores the revolutionary art that reflected freedom, rebellion, and creativity in the Bay Area rock 'n' roll scene. Guardino attended his first concert at 14 and has spent more than five decades building a wide ranging rock collection that spans vinyl records, posters, handbills, signed photos, instruments, concert shirts, comics, magazines, and collectible toys. He remains an active concertgoer, with a special affinity for Dead and Company, and this publication marks his debut as an author. Conroy has written eight books, including Shooting Stars and Blazing Guitars and I’m Just Sayin'. Over a 35 year career he taught theater and public speaking in San Jose public schools and storytelling at San José State University, and he wrote and directed the rock themed musicals Hip Van Winkle, Revenge of the Flower Children, and Rock and Roll Must Die. Copies of the book will be available for purchase.

Her work has received top awards at venues that include The National Arts Club in New York, The Butler Fine Art Museum, The Triton Museum of Art, The Autry Museum, and The Haggin Museum. She has earned numerous honors at The Carmel Art Festival Plein Air event, including the Plein Air Magazine Award of Excellence and Best Pastel 2015. Her pastels have been featured in American Art Collector, American Artist, Fine Art Connoisseur, Pratique des Arts, and in books such as Art Journal America, Plein Air New Mexico, and the French art book "40 Maitres de Pasteles." She achieved Master Circle status with the International Association of Pastel Societies, followed by its Eminent Pastelist Award. Additional distinctions include Eminent Pastelist with IAPS, Master Pastelist with the Pastel Society of America, Pastel Laureate with the Pastel Society of the West Coast, Distinguished Pastelist with the Pastel Society of New Mexico, and artist membership in the California Art Club. She was Invitee de Honor of Art du Pastel France in 2017 and is an experienced instructor who also serves as a juror and judge for many exhibitions.
