Set by the coast with refreshing breezes, the Shire of Darach presents a full day of pageantry and armored combat. The tournament uses a two-of-three format for each round. The final is decided as three wins out of five with mixed weapons, progressing as follows: first, great weapon, second, sword and buckler, third, sword and shield, fourth, single sword, and fifth, fighter’s choice. Letters of intent are being accepted, and only submissions made through the online form will be considered. The day includes site setup and gate entry, the opening and closing of the lists, a presentation of consorts, the tournament, and then closing court before the site closes. Opening court will take place at the discretion of Their Majesties. Registration is $20 per adult, or $10 for adults with a current membership and proof of membership. Youth 17 and under attend as guests of the Barony. Payment may be made in cash or by check payable to SCA, Inc./Shire of Darach. This is a dry site. Pavilions and day shades are welcome, with stakes no longer than 8 inches. Onsite parking is available, and vehicles may not be driven on the grass to unload. Leashed dogs are permitted. The journey follows a ten-part initiation process that opens with a despacho ceremony, moves through the Healer, Bands of Power and Harmony, Seer, Daykeeper, Wisdomkeeper, Earthkeeper, Starkeeper, and Creator rites, and concludes with a closing despacho. Contribution options include $45 per gathering or $400 for the complete series. In the spirit of ayni, the rites themselves are offered freely, and bringing a small gift for the host or rite giver is a traditional gesture.
