    Brain on Yoga Training

701 Garden View Ct, Encinitas · verified Aug 9
    See details

A comprehensive training offered in person, by live stream, and as a recording explores how the brain develops, adapts to life experiences, and how yoga can support people across the lifespan, including those affected by traumatic brain injury, autism, and Alzheimer’s. The program is designed for teachers and therapists seeking practical, science-informed methods for working with neurodiverse communities. An opening module with Amitice Lisa Saremi, MA, LMFT, C-IAYT, pairs Yoga Shadow Work with nervous system education to shed light on protective patterns rooted in earlier experiences. Through practice, participants learn ways to settle activation, expand capacity, and meet shadow material with clarity and compassion. The session offers concrete approaches for supporting clients in integrating this material while honoring the scope of yoga therapy. Dr. Linda Chamberlain, C-IAYT, presents on brain development in children and adolescents, highlighting how mind body practices nurture healthy remodeling during sensitive periods. Content covers the brain’s pathways for stress and fear and why compassion based practices and interoceptive skills belong in classes for preschoolers and young children. Simple micro practices and take home tools can be shared with caregivers and kids, and playful teaching aids such as puppets help children understand how their brains work. Participants also reconnect with their own inner child through meditation, journaling, and small group conversation. A hands on children’s yoga session with Shannon Ramo, C-IAYT and preschool teacher, demonstrates how age appropriate yoga can bolster early brain development, support emotional processing, inspire imaginative movement, and cultivate healthy community skills. A three day immersion with Shawnee Thornton Hardy, C-IAYT, SEP, author, RCYT, RYT-500, M.Ed., Educational and Behavioral Specialist, focuses on yoga, autism, and neurodiversity. Learn inclusive, accessible ways to share yoga and mindfulness with people who have diverse needs and backgrounds, including neurodiversity, disability, sensory and communication differences, motor challenges, anxiety, depression, and trauma. Guidance is provided for weaving yoga and somatic movement into school, therapeutic, and home settings to build resilience and capacity, with benefits that include increases in self awareness and regulation, confidence, social skills, body and sensory awareness, coordination and motor skills, attention, focus, learning, and behavior. The training concludes with a day on brain longevity led by neuroscientist Stephani Sutherland, PhD. Modern neuroscience is integrated with teachings from the Yoga Sutra and guided practice in asana and pranayama. Participants examine core neural physiology and cumulative risks to brain health with aging, including contributors to chronic pain and neurodegenerative disease, and explore lifestyle and behavioral approaches to build resilience from the cellular level. Topics include stress, sleep, and social factors that influence health. Tuition is $1,000.

25 Hour Yin Yoga Foundations Training with Joe Barnett

Soul of Yoga Institute, 701 Garden View Ct, Encinitas · verified Aug 9
    See details

A 25-hour Yin Yoga Foundations training with Joe Barnett at Soul of Yoga Institute presents an introduction to guiding a practice of surrender, with attention to the Caterpillar and Saddle archetypes. The format is hybrid, offered live online with small breakout groups and in person in Encinitas, CA. Participants study five archetypal Yin postures along with their primary target areas and adaptable variations, engage in interactive anatomy work to identify skeletal landmarks and explore range of motion, and learn to discern different types of sensation such as tension versus compression, muscular versus fascial, and physical feedback versus subtler energetic signals. The curriculum also introduces a functional approach to teaching and Paul Grilley’s Yin Yoga Sutras, then moves into foundational sequencing, why these sequences are used, how to modify them, and the basics of building new ones. Each Yin Foundations course includes brief analysis of all five archetypes, and this training devotes extra time to the Twisted Tree module, emphasizing the spine and its discs, the sacrum, the outer hip, and the shoulder girdle, with posture analysis focused on anatomy and function. Throughout, the practice centers on stillness and letting go, with shapes held for several minutes so resistance can ease and deeper connective tissues can be safely stressed and rehydrated, while offering deep rest for the body and a quiet refuge for the mind and heart. Early bird tuition is $450 and the standard rate is $550.
