Música en la Plaza welcomes the Manny Cepeda Orchestra to Lyric Court for a lively night of salsa. Selected as an artist on Pandora and Spotify in 2018 and added to Apple Music and YouTube Music in 2020, the ensemble showcases the leadership of Puerto Rican composer and arranger Manny Cepeda. Among its formats, the 11 piece band is especially popular, and the group is regarded as San Diego’s number one salsa band. Cepeda’s recordings include Roots/Raices and Padre Querido, featuring his original lyrics and arrangements, created in honor of his uncle Rafael Cepeda and as a tribute to his father, barber and musician Don Leonides Rivera. The training concludes with a day on brain longevity led by neuroscientist Stephani Sutherland, PhD. A 25-hour Yin Yoga Foundations training with Joe Barnett at Soul of Yoga Institute presents an introduction to guiding a practice of surrender, with attention to the Caterpillar and Saddle archetypes. The format is hybrid, offered live online with small breakout groups and in person in Encinitas, CA. Participants study five archetypal Yin postures along with their primary target areas and adaptable variations, engage in interactive anatomy work to identify skeletal landmarks and explore range of motion, and learn to discern different types of sensation such as tension versus compression, muscular versus fascial, and physical feedback versus subtler energetic signals.
