    Brain on Yoga Training

701 Garden View Ct, Encinitas · verified Aug 9
    See details

Available in person, by live stream, and through a recording, this training explores how the brain grows in childhood, how life experiences shape it, and how yoga can support brain health at every stage. Guidance is offered for teaching people with diverse neurological needs, with attention to traumatic brain injury, autism, and Alzheimer’s. Tuition is $1,000. One session pairs Yoga Shadow Work™ with literacy around the nervous system, led by Amitice Lisa Saremi, MA, LMFT, C-IAYT. Participants examine how life transitions can reveal protective patterns formed earlier in life, then use yogic practices to settle activation, expand capacity, and approach shadow material with clarity and compassion. Practical applications help yoga therapists support clients in integrating difficult material and staying connected to self while remaining within the boundaries of yoga therapy. Dr. Linda Chamberlain, C-IAYT, focuses on brain development in children and teens and the influence of mind body practices during periods of rapid remodeling. The pathway of stress and fear in the brain is unpacked, highlighting why loving kindness and interoceptive skills belong in yoga for preschoolers and young children. Expect approachable content, brief practices, and tools to share with caregivers and kids. Dr. Linda also introduces a puppet team that helps children understand how their brains work, and time is set aside to reconnect with the inner child through meditation, journaling, and small group conversation. An experiential Children’s Yoga segment with Shannon Ramo, C-IAYT and preschool teacher, offers a playful, instructional class that demonstrates how early yoga experiences can nurture brain development, support healthy emotional processing, and spark imaginative movement and community building. A three day workshop with Shawnee Thornton Hardy, C-IAYT, SEP, Author, RCYT, RYT 500, M.Ed., shows how yoga and mindfulness can be shared inclusively and accessibly with people of many abilities and backgrounds, including those with neurodiversity, disability, sensory and communication challenges, motor impairments, anxiety, depression, and trauma. Integrating yoga and somatic movement across educational, therapeutic, and home settings helps children, teens, and adults build capacity and resilience, with potential benefits for self awareness, self regulation, self esteem, social connection, body and sensory awareness, movement and coordination, fine and gross motor skills, attention, focus, learning, and behavior. Neuroscientist Stephani Sutherland, PhD, leads a one day workshop on yoga and brain longevity, weaving modern science with the Yoga Sutra alongside guided asana and pranayama. Participants explore core neural physiology and the accumulating risks to brain health that accompany aging, including contributors to chronic pain and neurodegenerative disease. The session emphasizes building resilience from the cellular level through lifestyle and behavioral practices, with attention to stress physiology and management, sleep, and social determinants of health.

LP and the Vinyl brings an adventurous blend of jazz, R&B, rock, Brazilian, classical, and 80s and 90s influences to Hidden City Sounds with a community jazz jam. The quartet unites vocalist Leonard Patton with the Danny Green Trio, featuring pianist Danny Green, bassist Justin Grinnell, and drummer Julien Cantelm. Their performances reimagine favorites by artists such as Stevie Wonder, the Beatles, and David Bowie, alongside fresh takes on jazz standards and their own songs, all shaped by close-knit interplay and in-the-moment improvisation. Formed in 2015, the group has appeared at festivals and arts venues including the Telluride and Vail jazz festivals, Laguna Festival of the Arts, Chandler Center for the Arts, and the Museum of Making Music. Their debut album, Heard and Seen, arrived in 2020 on Origin Records. This program is supported by the City of Escondido, County of San Diego, Prebys Foundation, Linden Root Dickinson Foundation, and William Trust Foundation.
