Legacy Care is holding a hiring event to expand its caregiver team that supports older adults with chronic illnesses at home. The organization focuses on post-hospital and post-rehabilitation care, especially for people who have lost mobility or need help with daily activities after a medical event. Care is delivered wherever clients live, including private residences and suites or condos within retirement communities, with the goal of dignified, life enhancing support. Open positions include six rehab nursing aides and four life enhancement caregivers, with options for short, flexible, part-time, or full-time shifts. Rehab nursing aides are certified caregivers who receive guidance from a nurse or therapist to help clients regain movement and physical function. Life enhancement caregivers are trained by a nurse or recreational therapy professional to provide personal care, supportive living services, mental engagement, and recreational activities. Certified nurse’s aides or home health aides without experience are welcome, with in-house and on-the-job training provided. Interviews take place during the event, and qualified candidates may receive immediate offers, followed by orientation and training so work can begin within a few days. Attendees should bring required work documents such as a home care aide registration number and proof of a negative TB test. Highlights include choosing schedules and client assignments, multiple pay frequency options, careful client matching, pay ranging from $20 to $23 per hour, and benefits available even for part-time staff.

From Page to Space: Drawing & Design for Storytelling

Rooted in the instructor’s experience as both a visual artist and theater educator, this eight-week class uses drawing to spark observation, imagination, and storytelling. Participants begin with the fundamentals of line, value, composition, and close observation, then transition into design concepts that connect visual art with stagecraft. Through hands-on exercises and guided discussion, the group explores how artists and set designers shape mood, character, and space. The class culminates in a personal final project, either a small drawing series or a simple set or design concept inspired by an individual story or theme. Held at the CCAE CH Art Studio, the workshop is limited to 20 students and is priced at $225 for the full series. The instructor’s perspective includes exhibiting work at the Día de los Muertos Festival and teaching set design at CCAE.

The performance features classics popularized by Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Bob Seger, Linda Ronstadt, the Eagles, John Mellencamp, Fleetwood Mac, The Band, Neil Young, and Creedence Clearwater Revival, among others. A standout Southern California ensemble leads the show, including Whitney Shay, a five-time San Diego Music Award recipient with honors such as Artist of the Year, Best Blues Artist, and Best Blues Album, Jesse Ray Smith, an acclaimed Americana singer songwriter and San Diego Music Award nominee, Lauren Leigh, a commanding vocalist known for dynamic live performances, and Will Stucky, a celebrated singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. The Bill Magee Blues Band shares the stage with the Anthony Cullins Trio for an evening steeped in the roots of American blues. Bill Magee, a cornerstone of the San Diego scene, leads an award-winning group recognized as Best Blues Band by the San Diego Music Association and Reader Magazine. His journey has included performing in Jimmy James and the Flames with a young Jimi Hendrix, appearances at the Apollo Theater, and bills alongside B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Otis Redding, and James Brown. After pausing touring to raise his family, he returned to San Diego stages with expressive, New York and Chicago influenced blues, seasoned guitar work, and a strong rapport with listeners. Special guests the Anthony Cullins Trio add a modern edge. The Fallbrook guitarist, songwriter, and multi instrumentalist blends R&B, funk, soul, rock, jazz, and blues into an eclectic, improvisational sound inspired by artists like Eddie Hazel, Jeff Beck, George Benson, and Eric Johnson. Summergrass Bluegrass Festival

At Summergrass San Diego, bluegrass takes center stage with hands-on workshops, a kids bluegrass camp, beginner-friendly jam sessions, vendors, food, and plenty of campground picking. Beyond the music, the Antique Gas and Steam Engine Museum offers extra discoveries, including the Weavers Barn and the Clock Museum. The artist lineup includes John Moore and Friends, John Jorgenson, Special Consensus, and Po’ Ramblin Boys, along with the Guesthouse Band, Ten Dollar Wedding, and the Flying Mothers, with more performers to be announced. Day parking is $5 at the gate and supports the museum. Pack hats, sunscreen, lawn chairs, and blankets, and be ready for warm days and cooler nights. Pets are not permitted, with exceptions for campers as noted in the camping guidelines. Camping can be reserved in advance or purchased at the gate. It includes a multi-day campsite and one three-day ticket, with options for electric or dry sites. Prices are $450 for electric sites, $200 for dry sites, $110 for a three-day pass, and $90 for Kids Camp. Advance purchasers may select their spot, while gate sales are first come, first served. On arrival, check in at the gate to receive vehicle stickers and wristbands, and have proof of any pre-purchased tickets or camping plus a photo ID. Tour De Carlsbad!

Set out from Lost Abbey for a 54-mile ride with more than 6,000 feet of climbing, kept entirely within the Carlsbad city limits. The course weaves through neighborhood streets to highlight new perspectives on the city while avoiding major roads whenever possible. Riders will be grouped into A/B and C/D categories, each guided by leaders who know the route, set an appropriate pace, and stay at the front to call out turns and upcoming features. Participants should have the route loaded on a GPS device or be familiar with it. The ride will regroup after climbs, with convenient gas station stops planned around miles 16 and 30. Three KOM/QOM segments are featured, with winners earning a free beer at Lost Abbey afterward. The segments include Lapis Steep Full, a surprise middle section marked only at the start and finish, and Bolero to El Fuerte. Safety comes first. SBF San Diego Annual Event 2026

A heartfelt fundraising evening in San Diego brings the community together to support underprivileged kidney patients across Bangladesh, presented by Sonar Bangla Foundation in collaboration with Ogrojatra and GSBA. Established in 2009 and based in the San Francisco Bay Area, SBF is Bangladesh’s largest provider of dialysis care, running 26 centers that make life-saving treatment affordable for those who might not otherwise receive it. The organization also advances care through a nursing institute with subsidized tuition, a nationwide screening and prevention effort focused on rural communities, and a biomedical research and development center that assembles dialysis machines at Bangabandhu Hi-Tech Park using in-house expertise. Acorn tournament North vs South

Returning for its fifth year, this North vs South Acorn golf tournament brings two sides together for a head-to-head showdown at The Vineyards at Escondido Golf Course. The field is capped at 32 players and groups will head out in consecutive starts. Scoring is match play, and every participant must have a verified handicap. Registration requires sharing a phone number, email, assigned handicap number, and current handicap with the organizer. This is a prepaid event at $115 per person, which covers golf and a cart, plus a swag bag and a hat. On-course contests feature cash payouts for closest to the pin and longest drive. Mike Keneally & Beer For Dolphins

Mike Keneally and his band Beer For Dolphins make their first appearance at the Bornemann Theatre with special guest Travis Larson. Keneally, a guitarist and composer known for his work with Frank Zappa and collaborations with Steve Vai and Joe Satriani, leads a group whose music spans progressive rock, fusion, experimental approaches, and melodic writing. Travis Larson opens the show. A guitarist and composer with eight studio albums and three concert DVDs, his résumé includes collaborations with Steve Lukather, Victor Wooten, Dave LaRue, and Vinx, and stage appearances alongside Zappa Band, Steve Morse, UFO, and The Aristocrats. Música en la Plaza: Manny Cepeda Orchestra

The Manny Cepeda Orchestra brings vibrant salsa to the plaza, led by Puerto Rican composer and arranger Manny Cepeda. Recognized on Pandora and Spotify in 2018 and later added to Apple Music and YouTube Music in 2020, the group showcases a catalog that highlights Cepeda’s original lyrics and arrangements. His recordings include Roots/Raices, dedicated to the teachings of his uncle Rafael Cepeda, and Padre Querido, a tribute to his father, barber and musician Don Leonides Rivera. Since 2010, Cepeda has produced public concerts under the banner Salsa Under the Stars, and the orchestra’s 11 piece MCO ensemble is among its most popular lineups. This free performance is supported by the City of Escondido, the County of San Diego, the Linden Root Dickinson Foundation, and The Prebys Foundation.

2026 Double Peak Challenge 10k / 5k / Trail Trot

Double Peak Challenge celebrates outdoor recreation with a trail experience that climbs to North County’s highest summit, offering wide open views along the way. Participants can choose a timed 10K, an untimed 5K run or walk, or a kids trail trot. Awards will be presented for overall and age categories. A pre-race cardio warmup and stretch helps everyone get ready, there will be plenty of aid stations on course, and professional photographers will capture the action. Every finisher receives a custom medal. After the race, explore the expo and enjoy the beer garden featuring Michi Brewing, a San Marcos brewery. Proceeds support the San Marcos community through Friends of San Marcos and the Boys and Girls Club of San Marcos.

Wellness in the Watershed - A New Mindfulness Series for 55+

Wellness in the Watershed is a new four-part series from The Escondido Creek Conservancy designed for adults ages 55 and older, blending mindfulness, meditation, and gentle movement in a nature-rich setting at Mountain Meadow Preserve. Each gathering is held at the Swenerton Education Center, an outdoor classroom and event space where skilled instructors lead guided practices surrounded by the sights and sounds of the landscape. Over the course of the series, participants can experience themes such as yoga with a sound bath led by Sara Ferrer, land-based somatic practices with Mandy McGaugh, breathwork with Susan Tuttle, and qigong with Martha Blane. Participation is free, and advance registration through Eventbrite is required because space is limited. This program is supported by the Prebys Foundation.

LP and the Vinyl brings together renowned vocalist Leonard Patton with the critically acclaimed Danny Green Trio, uniting four San Diego based musicians who set out to explore songs with their own signature touch. Their style draws from jazz, R&B, rock, Brazilian and classical traditions, along with favorites from the 80s and 90s, resulting in performances that balance finely crafted arrangements with fearless improvisation. Listeners can expect imaginative takes on well loved tunes by artists such as Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, and David Bowie, along with vibrant interpretations of jazz standards and original pieces. Patton’s engaging stage presence and the close musical conversation between pianist Danny Green, bassist Justin Grinnell, and drummer Julien Cantelm give each set a fresh spark. The group has appeared at notable festivals and venues including the Telluride Jazz Festival, the Vail Jazz Festival, Laguna Festival of the Arts, Chandler Center for the Arts, and the Museum of Making Music. Their debut release, Heard And Seen on Origin Records, features music associated with The Beatles, Quincy Jones, Tears for Fears, David Bowie, and Oasis, alongside standards and originals, and has earned praise for the ensemble’s seamless shift from tight structures to open, communicative improvisation.
