KC Turner presents an evening with Craig Finn & The Band of Forgiveness in the HopMonk Novato Session Room. This fully seated event is open to all ages. Craig Finn is a Minnesota-bred singer and songwriter based in New York City, best known as the vocalist for The Hold Steady. He led the Minneapolis indie band Lifter Puller through the 1990s, then moved to New York and formed The Hold Steady with Tad Kubler in 2003. The band earned critical acclaim and a worldwide following for pairing dense lyrical storytelling with big rock guitars, and marked its 20th anniversary with the March 2023 release of its ninth album, The Price of Progress. Finn released his sixth solo album, Always Been, on April 4. Produced by Adam Granduciel, the record features performances by Granduciel and members of The War on Drugs, as well as Kathleen Edwards and Sam Fender. The album follows a man who becomes a clergyman despite lacking faith, tracing his rise, fall, and redemption while revealing the people in his orbit. A limited edition 92-page companion book, Lousy With Ghosts, includes 11 works of fiction by Finn that further explore the album’s characters and world. His solo work began in 2012 and continued with Faith in the Future, We All Want The Same Things, and I Need a New War from 2015 to 2019, which coalesced into a trilogy. The fifth album, A Legacy of Rentals, arrived in 2022 to widespread acclaim. Finn also hosts the podcast That’s How I Remember It, launched in 2022 and co-produced and distributed by Talkhouse, where he talks with musicians, authors, filmmakers, and other creators about how memory shapes their art.
