Events in Santa Maria today

Now in its second year, this car show takes place at Santa Maria High School, with entry through the Thronburg Gate. Proceeds support Cross Country Kids. Vehicle registration is available, and additional details can be found on the event flyer.

Start the morning with a relaxed walk at Los Flores Ranch Park. Follow a two mile route with gentle inclines while observing summer blooms, plants, and animals. Wear weather-appropriate clothing and bring water. Plan to meet at the visitor center.

At Oak Park Christian Church, neighbor volunteers will be on hand to repair broken items. Repairs include sewing and jewelry, work on electronics and bikes, and help with lamps and other small appliances. It offers a friendly way to get everyday items working again with community know-how.

Elwin Mussell Senior Center hosts a Hawaiian Dance presented by the Santa Maria Valley Senior Citizen Club, highlighted by music from Riptide Big Band. Guest dancer Yuka Freeman and vocalist Mitch Latting add to the festivities, while the band, a seventeen piece ensemble of Central Coast musicians and singers, delivers a mix that ranges from swing-era favorites to light rock of the 1980s. A social bar poker tournament at Rancho Bowl features California Social Poker in a league format where gambling is strictly prohibited, and beginners learning Texas Hold’em are welcome. A $5 donation is appreciated, and there are opportunities to win and advance. The top three players earn Bar Poker Open virtual tokens that can be redeemed in an online freeroll, where the top two percent qualify for seats into the Bar Poker Open $400,000 National Championship in Las Vegas. The online champion receives a full Vegas package that includes five days of hotel accommodations, a $400 airfare reimbursement, and a seat in the $400,000 national championship, with full Vegas travel packages awarded weekly. Santa Maria Elks Lodge #1538 hosts a tribute to the King of Rock and Roll featuring Jeremy "Elvis" Pearce with The Nashville Sound. Expect beloved Elvis hits, lively entertainment, and a friendly atmosphere. This event is open to the public. Hors d'oeuvres will be available. Youth Archery is a kid-friendly archery competition that may include target archery, 3D archery, field archery, or open shooting. Participants can typically use compound, recurve, or traditional bows unless a specific discipline is mentioned. For most events, bring a bow and at least 6 to 12 arrows, plus any gear needed for your style such as a release aid, arm guard, or finger tab. Longer-distance formats may also require binoculars or a spotting scope. The specific format and any pre-registration requirements are handled by Santa Maria Gun Club, Inc.
