Their 16th release, Nowhere Faster, broadens the palette with live strings and piano while contemplating urgency, motion, and uncertainty across eight tracks. The first half centers electric bass before shifting to acoustic bass processed through pedals, with pieces that range from the AI-tinged tension of Uncanny Valley Girl and the playful Bjork’s Alarm Clock to the Bond-theme swagger of Last Night In The Kitchen and the reflective So It Goes. The result is a sound that balances speed and contemplation, refined over more than two decades of collaboration.

Music Bingo hosted by Wild Bloom’s Matty F takes place at Wood-n-Tap in Hamden. It is free to play. Instead of numbers, players listen to short song clips and mark their cards, with a video display showing the song title and artist to help. The format includes four rounds with a mix of patterns and categories, and each round’s winner selects the category for the next one. Prizes are awarded in every round. Their 2025 album, Ode to the Greyhouse, was tracked at Pachyderm Studios in Minneapolis, the site of Nirvana’s In Utero sessions, and embraces a lived-in, 90s-rooted sound with intimate vocals riding over big, gritty riffs. Tracks including Drone Song, Double Take, Love To Go, and I Can Be Your Dog highlight everything from hazy churn and thoughtful introspection to brisk momentum and the classic quiet-loud snap. The title nods to the Nashville house where much of the material took shape, reflecting a close-knit and unvarnished creative approach. Tickets are on sale.

Singer and songwriter Vanessa Collier brings a powerhouse blend of soul, blues, and R&B shaped by the classic Memphis sound. Her sixth album, Do It My Own Way, was built with analog warmth and a live-in-the-room feel, drawing on the legacy of Stax and Hi Records with rich horn parts, layered vocals, deep grooves, and vivid saxophone lines. The recording features revered Hi Records organist Rev. Charles Hodges and spans taut funk, rhumba-tinged sway, and gospel-inflected moments, including a tribute to Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Wild As a Rainstorm carries an empowering message and is featured on Spotify’s Retro Soul playlist, while the title track speaks plainly about agency and resilience in the music industry. Collier wrote, produced, and arranged the material herself and performs guitars, alto and tenor saxophones, flute, and lead and background vocals. A Berklee College of Music graduate and multiple Blues Music Award winner, she has performed with Joe Louis Walker, opened for Blues Traveler, and made her Chicago Blues Festival debut. Her previous release, Heart On The Line, held a top 15 position on the Billboard Blues Album Chart for several weeks.
