    Hedwig & The Angry Inch

Milton · Milton Theatre, 110 Union St

Milton Theatre hosts a mainstage production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, featuring the return of Jeremy Bernstein, also known as Magnolia Applebottom, in the title role after a memorable turn as Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Show. Created by John Cameron Mitchell with music and lyrics by Stephen Trask, the show began off Broadway with an Obie Award, inspired an award-winning film adaptation, and later surged back in a Tony-winning Broadway revival. In a concert-style performance backed by the band the Angry Inch, Hedwig Schmidt recounts a life reshaped by a failed operation, a deal with an American GI, and a complicated connection with Tommy Speck, who rises to stardom with songs she helped shape. The story moves from East Berlin to the American Midwest as Hedwig follows Tommy’s tour, performing next door and laying bare her journey through driving rock anthems and heartfelt ballads. Themes of identity, love, and wholeness pulse through Stephen Trask’s score, including the quest captured in The Origin of Love, all experienced up close in an intimate setting that pulls the audience into the grit and the glitter.
