He will weigh the evidence behind that association and delve into a centuries-old question about the images’ true origins. The program also includes insights into a historic mound along the Halifax River in central Ormond Beach, offering a revised look at how its story has been understood. He has written more than twenty books on Indigenous peoples of the southeastern United States and their interactions with Europeans, has earned multiple lifetime achievement honors from professional archaeological and historical groups, and is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. This free lecture is part of OMAM’s "America at 250: Florida’s History Through Power, People & Place" series. Save a Life Day is a nationwide day of action focused on expanding access to naloxone as a practical response to the overdose crisis. It began in West Virginia as a small pilot and has grown into the largest annual effort in the United States to distribute naloxone at no cost, with community groups setting up tables, sharing brief trainings, and offering supplies. At this site, activities take place in the fenced area behind the PMR Building. VRA will provide harm reduction resources such as naloxone and fentanyl test strips, along with hygiene items, recovery literature, and peer services. Halifax Urban Ministries will offer meals to take away. PMR will operate a food pantry and serve a hot lunch. Angel Anna's Clothes Closet will be present, and Sirius Healthcare will provide free testing for hepatitis, HIV, and STIs.
