Milanich presents an illustrated talk that reexamines Theodore de Bry’s 1591 engravings of the Timucua, long linked to Jacques le Moyne’s observations from 1564 to 1565. He will weigh the evidence behind that association and delve into a centuries-old question about the images’ true origins. The program also includes insights into a historic mound along the Halifax River in central Ormond Beach, offering a revised look at how its story has been understood. Admission is free, and registration is requested due to limited seating. Dr. Milanich serves as Curator Emeritus of Archaeology at the Florida Museum of Natural History at the University of Florida. He has written more than twenty books on Indigenous peoples of the southeastern United States and their interactions with Europeans, has earned multiple lifetime achievement honors from professional archaeological and historical groups, and is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
