A school holiday becomes an outdoor adventure at Marine Discovery Center with a one-day camp designed for ages 5 to 12. Campers head out on the pontoon boat Discovery to Disappearing Island to explore mangrove habitats and observe wildlife of the Indian River Lagoon. After returning to the main campus, activities focus on additional Florida ecosystems through guided, hands-on learning with experienced instructors. These sessions are scheduled to coincide with Volusia County school holidays. The cost is $55 for a single day. Payment is due at the time of reservation, and cancellations must be made at least two weeks in advance to receive a refund.

The group steps ashore on a remote island for hands-on exploration and a closer look at this unique environment. Designed for K through 12 learners, the program runs once each month throughout the school year, with rotating themes such as barrier islands, ocean zones from the sunlit surface to the deep sea, the many ways the lagoon acts as a buffer, nursery, and filter, and the science of ocean acidification with ways to help. The cost is $25 per person. A minimum number of participants is required. Students must attend with an adult, and both students and accompanying adults must register and pay as participants.
