Sister Act

The Athens Theatre Company brings Sister Act to the stage, featuring music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater, and a book by Cheri and Bill Steinkellner, with additional material by Douglas Carte Beane. Adapted from the Touchstone Pictures film written by Joseph Howard, this lively musical comedy moves from nightclub glitz to convent life as Deloris Van Cartier, a disco singer who has witnessed a crime, is hidden away in a cloister for her safety. Struggling with the regimented routine and a firm Mother Superior, Deloris is tasked with working with the faltering choir. Her bold style and commanding voice transform the ensemble, lifting the parish and surrounding community. As the choir’s fame grows, so do the risks, building to a feel-good conclusion that honors friendship, bravery, and the bonds of sisterhood. Rated PG for thematic elements and mild language. Approximate run time is 2 hours and 30 minutes, including a 15-minute intermission. Presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International.

Breakfast at the Sugar Mill, Deleon springs

A community jet ski ride brings together the Orlando Jet Ski Riders and the Central Florida jet ski community for a scenic run from the Ed Stone Park boat ramp to the Old Sugar Mill Pancake Factory in DeLeon Springs for breakfast. There is also an option to meet directly at the restaurant rather than launching with the group. Safety is a key focus throughout the outing, with riders wearing life jackets, attaching their kill switch before starting, following hand signals and the ride leader’s guidance, traveling in single file, keeping a safe distance, and showing courtesy to others on the water. Reckless riding and stunts are not part of this ride. Extra fuel is typically unnecessary, though riders on supercharged skis or those who prefer a faster pace may choose to bring some as a precaution.

Bobbi Baugh: Symbols & Storytelling | Museum of Art - DeLand

At Museum of Art - DeLand, Bobbi Baugh presents story-driven textile collages that transform quilts into richly colored narratives. Her award winning work brings together hand printmaking, painted surfaces, original photo transfers, layered collage, and machine stitching, creating mixed media compositions that explore dreams, memory, and the places where personal history takes shape. Baugh studied at Stetson University and spent many years in commercial printing and stationery design before moving into a full time studio practice. Since 2010 she has concentrated on textile art and collage, with solo presentations at the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum and Arts on Douglas Fine Art Gallery, plus wide participation in juried and traveling exhibitions through Studio Art Quilt Associates. A set of recurring motifs guides viewers into the stories. Windows, simplified houses with elements like trees and water inside, and a returning figure of a young girl become touchstones for reflections on home and journey. The quilts invite a thoughtful look at how images, textures, and color can become the language of memory.

Beautiful Loser: The Bob Seger Tribute

Beautiful Loser honors the music of Bob Seger, one of the world’s best-selling artists with more than 75 million records sold. Seger’s six-decade career earned inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2012, and after he announced his final tour in 2018, this tribute offers a live celebration of the songs that defined his legendary shows. The band features a rotating lineup of seven to ten accomplished musicians, including players who have toured with Jack Bruce, Todd Rundgren, and The Alan Parsons Project. At the center is vocalist Ken Hurley, a Kentucky native who began singing as a child in his family’s group led by his mother, a noted Southern Gospel singer. A Marine veteran and a longtime presence in South Florida’s music scene, he is recognized for a rich, soulful voice that lights up the Seger catalog. Past attendees often return for repeat performances and describe the concert as personal and engaging, praising the strong musicianship, powerful vocals, and an extended set that keeps the energy high throughout.
