He earned a PhD in Plant Pathology from Texas A&M and completed postdoctoral work at the University of Michigan on Xanthomonas pathogenicity and CRISPR editing.     The Beautiful Gate is bringing its nationally recognized Mammograms After Sunday Service, a mobile 3D mammography program, to New Hope Church Deltona, FL for a convenient and comfortable breast cancer awareness and screening event. Built on an award-winning health equity approach, the screening is designed to be easy to access for people with or without insurance. Uninsured Florida residents may be eligible if they live in the state, do not have health insurance, have not had a mammogram within the past year, and are 40 to 64 years old, or are under 40 with a first-degree family history of breast cancer or symptoms. Income at or below 200 percent of the poverty level is required for the uninsured, and women of any age who have completed treatment for breast cancer may also qualify. Insured Florida residents who are due for screening because they have not had a mammogram within a year can participate as well. Those at average risk are advised to begin screening at age 40, and most insurance plans cover screening mammograms without out-of-pocket costs. Insured Florida women can schedule through 3D MammoLink. Participants who schedule, keep their appointment, and complete a virtual breast health session will receive a free gift card. Appointment slots are limited, and preregistration is available to secure a time.

    A tentatively planned Florida native plant sale presented by the Cuplet Fern Florida Native Plant Society will take place at the Rinker Environmental Learning Center, with the setup located behind the museum in the courtyard breezeway. Shoppers can expect a varied selection of Florida native wildflowers, grasses, trees, and shrubs available for purchase. Native plants support local biodiversity and healthy ecosystems, are adapted to local climate conditions, help conserve water, and reduce reliance on fertilizers and pesticides, which benefits community health. Incorporating native flora into urban and residential landscapes fosters a sense of place, connects people with their natural heritage, and supports overall wellbeing. Admission is free and open to the public, and RSVPs are requested for planning purposes. Cuplet Fern members receive a 10 percent discount on plants only, not on other merchandise, and this incentive is limited to current members with on-site verification or renewal available. Pre-orders have been replaced with sale requests. For cash purchases, totals will be rounded to the nearest dollar, and card payments will include applicable processing fees. The chapter serves partners at Stetson and the DeLand community, as well as the Seminole and West Volusia areas.

After college he partnered with community organizations to address economic disparities and conserve green spaces in urban areas. Outside of work he spends time outdoors, with favorites that include hiking, trail biking, camping, and gardening.
