🧬🔬💉The Survival Curve: 220-Years of Scientific Wonder

Bertha Vazquez of the Center for Inquiry’s Teacher Institute for Evolutionary Science presents an exploration of how medicine and public health reshaped human survival over the past 220 years. The program traces the move from high early-life mortality to longer, healthier lives through breakthroughs like vaccination, clean water systems, antiseptics, and antibiotics, showing how evidence-based practice replaced harmful historical treatments and transformed everyday expectations. Vazquez is a retired middle school science teacher and the Education Director at the Center for Inquiry. She leads a network of 100 educators that has delivered more than 475 professional development sessions across all 50 states. Her climate education work has been featured by The New York Times and NPR. She edited On Teaching Evolution in 2021 and co-authored What Teachers Want to Know About Teaching Climate Change in 2025. Her honors include the 2023 Friend of Darwin Award, and she is a regular conference speaker and a Fellow of the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry. This CFFC educational program is free and open to the public. Coffee and water will be available, with snacks served during a social hour after the meeting. To help with expenses, a voluntary per-person donation is suggested for those who are not recurring monthly supporters, set at $5 for local speakers and $10 for out-of-area speakers. The organization relies on ongoing support to cover meeting costs such as the venue, equipment, speaker fees, and travel. Oviedo Mall's Community Classroom | What Does It Take to Get The Right Shot?

Explore what truly elevates a photograph in a candid, conversation-style session with award-winning wildlife and nature photographer Simone Amaduzzi. Rather than focusing on camera settings or equipment, he shares the stories, missteps, lessons, and field experiences that shaped his craft, supported by compelling images. Hear about the mindset that leads to remarkable shots, the central role of patience, anticipating moments before they unfold, and finding creative solutions when plans change. The takeaways are practical and ready to use for photographers at any experience level. Amaduzzi’s eye was formed early while traveling with his father, a Formula 1 photojournalist, where he learned patience and careful observation. That foundation guided a career devoted to capturing rare, authentic moments in nature, with recognition that includes UCP Wildlife Photographer of the Year in 2023 and 2024 and UCP Nature Photographer of the Year in 2025. He emphasizes authenticity, believing the strongest images are not manufactured, they are witnessed. Each frame carries a story that starts with showing up, paying attention, and waiting for the moment that cannot be repeated. This free program welcomes seasoned shooters, curious hobbyists, and anyone who appreciates visual storytelling.

Free Curator Tour

Get an inside look at the exhibition a loom, a fence, a wire, a thread through a tour led by Chief Curator Dan L. Hess that follows the show’s path from early ideas and making to the curatorial choices that shape its installation. After the walkthrough, continue the conversation with free food. Attend with a friend or a date, or come on your own to connect with others who share an interest in art. The exhibition features new work by Mär Martinez, a Syrian American artist and Fulbright scholar, created during her 2025–26 Fulbright research in Istanbul. Her project explores traditional Turkish and Middle Eastern textile techniques alongside themes of urbanization, surveillance, and cultural memory. Informed by late-night walks through Istanbul’s neighborhoods, she reimagines architectural barriers, including barbed wire, fences, and other forms of hostile design, within a textile-inspired visual language that underscores resistance and renewal. Evocative wood paintings weave together personal heritage, world textile histories, and contemporary social reflection in layered, poetic compositions. Admission is free and a cash bar will be available.

SIB Linda’s La Cantina Hdcp Doubles

This doubles bowling tournament features a fast, cut-driven format. Teams bowl four games on the same pair of lanes to start, with the top quarter advancing as cashers and scores resetting for the next stage. In the cashers round, teams roll one additional doubles game, half the field advances, and scores reset again. One final game then determines the finishing order. The entry fee is $100 per team, $50 per person. Youth participation is not permitted under USBC Rule 400. Handicap is 70% of 230. Averages are based on the highest current Bowl.com average with at least 21 games for 2025 to 2026, or if none, the highest 2024 to 2025 yearbook average with at least 21 games on Bowl.com. If needed, up to three prior seasons of book averages will be reviewed. Without an eligible average, bowlers compete scratch. If a bowler is 10 pins or more higher or lower than the previous season, a composite average will be used. The tournament director may rerate a player’s average, and after participation in six handicap events, averages are subject to review for a possible rerate. The minimum entering average is 110. If a team pays and does not attend, the entry fee is forfeited. The lane condition is modified, and the cash ratio is 1 in 4. Side action options include $5 handicap singles brackets and $5 scratch singles brackets, $10 handicap and $10 scratch high game pots, $25 optional scratch singles, $25 optional handicap singles, $25 optional senior singles, $25 optional women’s singles, and a $25 SIB All In Pot. The field is capped at 44 teams. Spots may be reserved with prepayment or a $20 per team deposit. Payments can be made through Venmo or PayPal to reduce cash transactions. Ariella & Nicolaas | July 12 | Blue Bamboo

At Blue Bamboo, husband-and-wife duo Ariella & Nicolaas share a blend of blue-eyed soul shaped by jazz, blues, and subtle world influences. Ariella McManus’s rich, smoky vocals pair with Nicolaas Kraster’s expressive, Spanish-tinged guitar to create performances that feel intimate and powerful at once. Their sound nods to contemporary favorites like Norah Jones and Amy Winehouse while drawing on the legacy of Etta James, Patsy Cline, Roy Buchanan, Al di Meola, and Paco de Lucía. On stage, her barefoot ease and vibrant presence balance his cool precision and virtuosity, a chemistry honed over more than 15 years of making music together. Their path has taken them around the world, from the Blue Note in New York City to The Voodoo Room in Edinburgh, sharing stages with acclaimed artists along the way. In 2023 they served as guest artists and instructors at Victor Wooten’s Music and Nature Camp, with Wooten praising them as among his favorite duos and producer Fabrice Dupont recognizing Ariella as a classic voice for today. A stripped-back approach brings every lyric and note into sharp focus. That honesty has fueled swift growth, from 6,000 to 250,000 online followers in just four months in 2023 and now a global community surpassing 500,000. Audiences frequently rise to their feet... sometimes even in tears... as the music lands with heart and soul.

Orlando Premiere of Skweezy Jibbs Makes a Movie w/ Skweezy Live!

From the team behind Portlandia and Documentary Now comes the Orlando premiere of Skweezy Jibbs Makes a Movie at AMC Altamonte Mall 18. Skweezy appears live for a special screening followed by an exclusive Q&A and meet and greet. This one-night engagement takes place in auditorium 5, and there will be no trailers before the feature. The film follows internet oddball Skweezy Jibbs as he sets out to make his dream movie, a wild mashup that nods to high-impact action, provocative dance, towering robots, and fast-paced street racing, all while having no budget, no experience, and no filmmaking know-how. What could possibly go wrong?
