    Niki in the Garden

Atlanta Botanical Garden, 1345 Piedmont Ave NE, Atlanta · verified Aug 2
    See details

Access is included with Garden admission. Marking the Garden’s 50th anniversary, this encore exhibition brings back the larger-than-life sculptures of French artist Niki de Saint Phalle that captivated visitors two decades ago. The showcase highlights her vibrant, playful figures, including the celebrated Nanas, along with fantastical animals and monsters that helped define her pioneering work in large sculpture. A total of 41 pieces will be on view, thought to be the largest presentation of her work in North America, with most loans from the Niki Charitable Art Foundation and additional works from private collections. Visitors will encounter artworks throughout the Garden, the Conservatory, the Orchid Center, and the Gardenhouse Gallery, with The Three Graces enlivening the Skyline Garden pond. The range spans from Grand Step Totem at 2,000 pounds and the 16.5-foot Large Yelling Man to compact wall reliefs measuring about 2 feet square. An interpretive display about the artist and her practice will be available near the entrance to the Orchid Display House. Those who remember the earlier presentation can enjoy seeing these joyful sculptures again, while newcomers can discover them for the first time.
