Surrounded by the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, this region is celebrated for its coastal character, seafaring heritage, charming towns, and strong ties to Scandinavia. The program covers Hanseatic history, beachside resorts, regional cuisine, and long-standing customs that reflect a blend of German and Nordic influences. The presentation is led by Henning von Mantey, a Schleswig-Holstein native and Atlanta resident, who will share insights into local traditions, language, daily life, and the area’s natural beauty. It is well suited for travelers, enthusiasts of German culture, those exploring family heritage, and anyone curious about a lesser known corner of Europe. Participants may attend in person with tastings of regional food and beverages, or take part via Zoom.
