    Billy Pilgrim (Early)

    Eddie's Attic, 515 N McDonough St, Decatur · verified Aug 30
    See details

Eddie’s Attic hosts Billy Pilgrim, the folk rock partnership of Andrew Hyra and Kristian Bush. Marking 35 years together, they bring story-rich songs and tightly woven harmonies that resist easy labels. The pair first met at a songwriters night in Knoxville in 1990, then released five albums by 2001, including two for Atlantic Records with tracks like Sweet Louisiana Sound and Insomniac, the latter revisited by The New York Times almost thirty years after its debut. Taking their name from Slaughterhouse-Five, this was the first band for both artists before they each pursued other paths. Hyra co-founded the Smokin’ Novas with Atlanta guitarist Brian Bristow and producer-engineer Don McCollister. Bush formed the Grammy-winning, multi-platinum duo Sugarland, built a solo catalog, wrote for the stage, and produced country singer Megan Moroney. After more than a decade away, they reunited in a surprise moment at the 2015 30A Songwriters Festival. They later issued In the Time Machine, an album once presumed lost when a fire in 2000 destroyed the masters, until Bush uncovered a surviving copy while quarantining. They followed with Billy Pilgrim Is Your Friend, recorded live in the studio. Today they continue to hone the blend that first connected them, uniting their voices with a mix of folk, Americana, and influences from East Tennessee.
