Living History Theatre: "Navigating New Ground"

At Hawaiian Mission Houses Historic Site and Archives, a live first person theater program explores how four influential figures helped shape modern Hawaiʻi through journeys across oceans, institutions, and cultures. Titled Navigating New Ground, the evening unfolds through portrayals that illuminate different kinds of navigation in life. Stuart Featheran appears as Manuia, a royal court navigator who traveled to London and moved between aliʻi circles and Western commerce, highlighting cultural agility. Adam LeFebvre portrays William F. Pogue, known for building the Hana Highway and carving literal pathways through Maui’s rugged landscape. Albert Ueligitone takes on John Henry Wise, the first Native Hawaiian to play American college football, who pursued religious study at Oberlin College and later taught Hawaiian at Kamehameha Schools and the University of Hawaiʻi, advancing the language during the period surrounding overthrow and annexation. Eden Lee Murray embodies Edna Allyn, the librarian who organized Hawaiʻi’s statewide library system and expanded access to knowledge across the islands. Admission is $45 per person and includes bento.
