The Walk to End Alzheimer’s returns to Principal Park in Des Moines, bringing the community together to honor loved ones and advance the fight against Alzheimer’s and all other dementia. Last year’s local walk brought out more than 1,600 participants across 230 teams and raised $333,000. Proceeds benefit the Alzheimer’s Association and its care, support, and research programs. The Association is a nonprofit 501(c)3, and donations are tax-deductible as permitted by law. All participants must register, including children. There is no registration fee, and everyone is encouraged to make a personal gift and help raise funds. Offline gifts by check or money order can be mailed or hand-delivered to the local Alzheimer’s Association office with the offline donation form so they are credited to a participant’s page, and these typically appear within one to two weeks. Checks can also be added through the Walk to End Alzheimer’s mobile app for iPhone or Android. Registered walkers who raise at least $100 will receive the official Walk to End Alzheimer’s T-shirt by mail. To have the shirt in time for Walk day, reach the minimum at least four weeks before the event. Strollers are welcome. For safety, skateboards, bicycles, inline skates, and wheelie footwear are discouraged. Guidance about dogs will be shared closer to the event, and if permitted, dogs must remain leashed at all times. The walk is held rain or shine, with cancellation only in the case of severe weather, and updates will be posted on the event’s homepage. Play follows Competitive REL with 80 minute Swiss rounds, and the field is capped at 24. Qualifiers and the LCQ advance a Top 4 championship pod. Decklists are required at registration, and any changes must be reported before the event begins. Judges will be present and the proxy policy is enforced. The LCQ winner claims one of eight seats at the Invitational Final, joining six qualifier winners and one store invite. If a previously qualified player wins again, the invitation passes to the next highest finisher. There are no points or season standings, win a qualifier to secure a spot. Entry is $30, with a portion of each entry contributing to the Invitational prize pool. Final prize details will be announced before the championship.
