Midsummer Wine Walk
The Midsummer Wine Walk makes its return.
Downtown Crystal LakeGongtopia! The Alchemy of Sound with Michael Bettine
Participants are immersed in a richly textured soundscape as gongs, singing bowls, bells, and other resonant instruments generate rippling tones that encourage deep relaxation. The experience is presented as a way to ease stress and invite a sense of clarity and calm, with vibrations that support quiet focus and gentle restoration. Michael Bettine can share background on the instruments, place them in historical and cultural context, and demonstrate the sounds and techniques he uses in meditation sessions or concert settings. Bettine is a Milwaukee based percussionist with more than 40 years of experience across many musical settings. He began working with gongs in 1975 and has spent decades exploring how sound interacts with mind and body. For the past 18 years he has focused primarily on gongs, singing bowls, bells, and related metal instruments under the name Gongtopia, presenting gong meditation sessions and solo percussion concerts. He has released over 40 recordings, and his long running blogs The Way of the Gong, Art As A Spiritual Practice, and Percussion Deconstruction have been embraced within meditation and sound therapy communities as well as among percussionists.
