With American Canoe Association certified instructors on site, participants head onto the water to reach trash that cannot be accessed from shore, using provided pickers and receptacles to help make the rookery cleaner and more scenic. This program is for adults ages 18 and older. The fee is $5 per person. Registration is required, and marking yourself as going on Facebook does not count as registration. Prior kayaking experience is necessary because this is not a lesson or guided outing. All equipment is provided, including personal flotation devices. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and water. The launch is a natural surface and is reachable from the parking lot via a paved trail. Anyone needing an auxiliary aid or service can request one at least 48 hours before the program.

Bring binoculars or a spotting scope for the best views, and use the preserve parking lot. For the protection of this designated nature preserve, dogs and bicycles are not allowed in the Heron Rookery. The viewing platform is reached by a crushed limestone trail that can be uneven.
