The Out of the Darkness Walk brings the Fort Wayne community together at Headwaters Park to raise awareness and support suicide prevention. Registration and community activations take place first, followed by an opening ceremony that includes the Honor Bead Ceremony, and the walk begins afterward. Funds raised benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, advancing research, science-based education, advocacy, and programs that offer hope and help while also supporting survivors of suicide loss. BEAT Ensemble is a once-a-month musical play experience for children ages 5 to 12 that focuses on rhythm, teamwork, and creativity in a welcoming group environment. Each themed session offers hands-on time with boomwhackers, Orff instruments, and a range of percussion so beginners and experienced kids alike can take part. Participants practice keeping the beat, collaborating as a group, and building confidence through self-expression and sound exploration while connecting with peers in an inclusive setting that supports a wide range of abilities. Class size is limited to 10 participants, and children may attend independently or with a parent or support staff. Registration closes 48 hours before the session begins. If accommodations are needed, families can share details during registration so Sweetwater and the instructor can provide reasonable supports, with the exception of one-on-one aid, which must be provided by the participant’s own support person.
