    See details

At Harmony and Health, thermography provides a noninvasive, pain free, radiation free imaging option that uses a highly sensitive infrared camera to detect patterns of dysfunction and inflammation in men and women. It is commonly used for breast health screening and can be utilized even when implants or dense breast tissue are present. Beyond breast monitoring, thermography can help identify sources of pain, vascular concerns, the condition of the lymphatic system, injuries and joint problems, and functional issues in organs such as the thyroid, heart, liver, and colon. Studies referenced for this service indicate that thermography may be 10 times more significant as a future risk indicator for breast cancer than a first order family history, and that a persistent abnormal thermogram is associated with a 22 times higher future risk. Images are read and interpreted by a team of medical doctors through BRAS, and reports are typically available within 2 to 3 business days. Pricing is $215 for breast thermography, $315 for upper body, and $415 for full body. To make an appointment, call 502-895-1224 and request scheduling for Harmony and Health.

    Save Our Stories Festival

    See details

The Save Our Stories Festival is a welcoming, hands-on celebration of community-led preservation and storytelling at Roots 101 African American Museum in Louisville. Presented by the Louisville Story Program in collaboration with Roots 101 and the Community Archiving Workshop Collective, the festival invites participants to explore how they can help safeguard stories and heritage, with engaging activities throughout the day. Admission is free and everyone is welcome, with food and refreshments available. Attendees can explore museum exhibits, hear about projects created by the people who lead them, and talk with others about what deserves to be documented, how to help keep those histories alive, and who else might play a role. Hands-on stations offer a chance to try documentary video making with the Kentucky BIPOCU Filmmakers Association, receive guidance for family history research from the African American Genealogical Group of Kentucky, learn options for digitizing cherished photos and videotapes, practice oral history interviewing, view old tapes at a VHS station, observe or take part in a Community Archiving Workshop where archivists and neighbors examine and catalog community materials, and take home resources to continue preservation work. Community presentations begin with a welcome from Lamont Collins of Roots 101 and Darcy Thompson of the Louisville Story Program, plus a poetry reading by Gabe Tomlin. Student archivists from Central High School, working with Harvard doctoral student Jordan Jackson-Collins and librarian Adrian Layne, share their work organizing and publishing the school’s hidden archive, including yearbooks, handwritten speeches, correspondence, and photographs reaching back to 1884, and explain why this history matters today. A session on the Chickasaw neighborhood highlights a seven-year effort that gathered recollections and photographs from more than 200 contributors for a forthcoming book about a community whose influence spans civil rights, politics, education, and more, with insights from Cheri Bryant Hamilton, Leborah Goodwin, Kip Mackey, Claudia Geurin, and Mrs. Elmer Lucille Allen. Another presentation explores I’m Glad About It, a project preserving Louisville’s gospel music legacy documented by local labels such as Sensational Sounds, Grace Gospel, and Blessed. Learn about the restored recordings, a comprehensive book, a companion double LP, and a vast digital archive that honors the artists who built this tradition, with panelists Wilma Clayborn, Raoul Cunningham, and Rev. Della Porter. The Louisville Story Program also previews its forthcoming Digital Archives, including collections like more than 16,000 Louisville Defender photographs housed at the University of Louisville Photographic Archives, with guidance from Darcy Thompson and Jason Polete of Together LLC on how to navigate and contribute to future collections. The program concludes with a look at the history of Black South Louisville, a once tightly knit, integrated neighborhood shaped by Churchill Downs, the L&N Railroad, and the N Street Baptist Church. Dr. Barry C. Johnson previews efforts to document life there from 1890 to 1975, tracing major historical eras and the community’s cultural contributions. Support for the festival comes from Republic Bank, the Arthur K. Smith Family Foundation, The Jack Harlow Foundation, Brown-Forman, Fund for the Arts, and the Community Foundation of Louisville. Design by J. Dominique of Lumae Designs.

Popular with seniors, students, professionals, and groups, the series fosters a welcoming atmosphere that makes it easy to connect and enjoy great music together before the weekend.
