A family friendly summer soccer series is coming to Roe Park through a four week collaboration between Unbound Learners and Woodland FC, Shawnee’s elite semi pro men’s club. Woodland FC’s semi pro players will coach on site, bringing Next Play Certified guidance that combines soccer fundamentals with support for focus, resilience, and a positive mindset. The setup is designed for convenience and takes place alongside the regular park soccer meet up so families can stay in one spot while kids choose what suits them best. Participants can train with Woodland FC’s coaching staff for a $20 per week option, join the volunteer led Unbound Learners soccer group at no cost, or spend time at the playground and splash pad. To keep cool, shade is available and the splash pad offers a quick way to beat the heat, so a towel may be helpful. Registered children receive added perks that include a complimentary ticket to a Woodland FC home match and a Chick-fil-A voucher or a Pineapple Dragonfruit Sprite. This World War I romance, directed by William A. Wellman, is known for its pioneering, real-life aerial cinematography and earned Best Picture and Best Engineering Effects at the first Academy Awards. Though primarily a silent feature, it was released with synchronized music and sound effects, and this presentation features a careful restoration with a newly recorded soundtrack based on the original score. The story follows two men who go to war and the woman they both care for, with Clara Bow leading the cast alongside Richard Arlen and Charles “Buddy” Rogers, plus a notable early appearance by Gary Cooper. Tickets start at $8. There are no advance ticketing fees, and prices increase the day of the show. Tables with seats that include admission are available while supplies last in the VIP section or near the stage. The auditorium includes 182 seats in total, with 130 general admission theater seats, 52 seats at 14 tables, and 4 ADA wheelchair spots. Get moving alongside Lenexa police officers in a community workout that blends functional movements, strength work, and cardio conditioning. Exercises are scaled for all experience levels, and participants can pick up motivation, practical fitness tips, and routines that help keep officers in peak form. Adults 18 and older are eligible, and a brief background check is required because the workouts take place in a secure area. After submitting an application, a Lenexa Police Department staff member will follow up with details and confirm a session. Space is limited, so approved applicants may be placed into a future session if the next one is full. Each session lasts one hour and is free to attend, with no long-term commitment. Once approved, participants can choose which session months to attend. Workouts are held indoors at the Lenexa Justice Center. Please wear athletic clothing and proper workout shoes suitable for a public gym. Participants who are not dressed appropriately may be asked to change before taking part. Sessions are led by Paul Sharbaugh of Active Lifestyle Coaching, a local strength and conditioning specialist with more than 25 years of experience in business and National Guard settings. The 2026 Kansas City Walk for Apraxia is a free community gathering at Blackhoof Park, Oak Shelter, created to celebrate Apraxia Stars and bring together families, friends, and professionals. 7th Annual Every Pair Matters
Every Pair Matters Shoot takes place at Powder Creek Shooting Park and centers on raising support for Gilda's Club Kansas City. As in previous years, the Powder Creek Ladies have designated Gilda's Club Kansas City as the beneficiary, an organization that offers education, counseling, and hope to people facing cancer, along with their caregivers and children. Marking a seventh year of giving, the effort has generated just over $120,000 for the cause over the last four years.
Run for Paws 5K 2026 - Benefiting the Lantz Tucker Memorial Fund
A community 5K at Frontier Park brings people together to support emergency veterinary care for pets in crisis. Proceeds benefit the Lantz Tucker Memorial Fund, which helps when a beloved animal urgently needs treatment and an owner cannot cover the cost, so families are not forced to surrender their pets or face losing them. Support from the event is paid directly to veterinarians for urgent, lifesaving services. Now in its seventh year, this fundraiser directs 100 percent of what it raises to vet bills. Since the fund began, it has provided more than $400,000 in assistance and helped 1006 pets remain with the families who love them. This run is the fund’s only organized fundraiser, and beyond this event it relies entirely on donations, with nothing asked in return.

Tickets start at $8, with no advance ticketing fees, and prices increase the day of the show. Table seating that includes admission is offered in the VIP area or near the stage while supplies last. The auditorium accommodates 182 guests, including 130 general admission theater seats, 52 seats at 14 tables, and 4 ADA wheelchair spots. A full bar serves domestic and craft beer, a wide selection of spirits and specialty drinks, plus soft drinks, popcorn, and snacks. Guests may bring in food from downtown Shawnee restaurants, but outside beverages are not permitted. Food trucks are often located near Transport Brewery and are subject to change without notice. Parking is available behind the theater, along the street, and across the street.

Ghouls’ Day Out offers a Halloween-themed afternoon of shopping, sipping, and celebration at Hometown Olathe Family Farm. Explore a curated selection of local vendors for spooky-cute treasures and fall favorites, with food and drinks available for purchase as you browse. Costumes are encouraged but not required, so come however you feel most comfortable and enjoy time with friends while soaking up the Halloween spirit. Admission is free and everyone is welcome. For prospective vendors, official contacts for opportunities are Hometown Olathe Family Farm and TJ Events, and payments are processed only through TJ Events.

Celebrate South African Braai Day with a community grill-out at Shawnee Mission Park, Shelter 8. Open to South Africans, their families and friends, and anyone who enjoys good food and conversation, this family friendly gathering offers plenty of parking, convenient restrooms, and a nearby playground for children. Attendees should bring their own meat for the braai, such as tjops or boerewors, along with grilling tongs, a container or plate for cooked items, plates, cutlery, napkins, and nonalcoholic drinks. To help create a varied spread, a sign up is available for appetizers, side dishes, and desserts to share. Camp chairs, outdoor games, and rugby balls are welcome to add to the braai atmosphere.
