    Aztec Shawnee Theater presents a screening of the original 1927 film Wings as part of the Americana Summer at the Movies series, sponsored by Shawnee Town 1929. This World War I romance, directed by William A. Wellman, is known for its pioneering, real-life aerial cinematography and earned Best Picture and Best Engineering Effects at the first Academy Awards. Though primarily a silent feature, it was released with synchronized music and sound effects, and this presentation features a careful restoration with a newly recorded soundtrack based on the original score. The story follows two men who go to war and the woman they both care for, with Clara Bow leading the cast alongside Richard Arlen and Charles “Buddy” Rogers, plus a notable early appearance by Gary Cooper. Tickets start at $8. There are no advance ticketing fees, and prices increase the day of the show. Tables with seats that include admission are available while supplies last in the VIP section or near the stage. The auditorium includes 182 seats in total, with 130 general admission theater seats, 52 seats at 14 tables, and 4 ADA wheelchair spots. Parking is available behind the theater, along the street, and across the street. A full bar offers domestic and craft beer, a range of spirits and specialty drinks, along with soft drinks, popcorn, and snacks. Guests may bring in food from nearby downtown Shawnee restaurants, but outside beverages are not permitted. Food trucks are often located outside Transport Brewery, and selections may change without notice.
