    Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers

Knuckleheads, 2715 Rochester Ave, Kansas City · verified Oct 2
    See details

Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers deliver a high energy rock show shaped by borderland storytelling and a sound that mixes punk grit, country western twang, and mariachi flair. Roger Clyne’s journey includes teaching English by day and busking with a guitar at night in Taipei as a student, a formative chapter that helped spark fan favorite songs people raise a glass to around the world. Joined by drummer PH Naffah, guitarist Jim Dalton, and bassist Nick Scropos, the band has built a devoted following through relentless touring and independent releases. Clyne and Naffah first broke out with The Refreshments, whose debut became a cult favorite on the strength of the single Banditos, national TV exposure, and a theme song credit for the animated series King of the Hill. That path led to the creation of Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers and the album Honky Tonk Union, which topped Billboard’s internet sales chart, followed by a run of top ten charting albums including Americano!, all achieved without major label backing. Highlights include induction into the Arizona Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame, headlining Sammy Hagar’s Cabo Wabo Cantina, and curating the Circus Mexicus festival in Puerto Peñasco, an event that draws thousands and supports local charities. The band also owns and produces an award winning tequila that has been poured in stadiums and is distributed in several states and in Sonora. As Clyne readies his eleventh studio album, the group continues to ignite audiences with spirited performances that turn life’s moments into sing along anthems.

Children's Mercy Park, 1 Sporting Way, Kansas City · verified Oct 4
    See details

The KC Cauldron tailgate is hosting a BBQ competition where teams go head to head for bragging rights, trophies, and the title of BBQ champion. Teams can include one to six people, and each team must have at least one Cauldron member. Advance registration is required, and participants may compete on only one team. Any meat or barbecue dish is eligible, with no required category or cooking style. Sauces, rubs, marinades, injections, and seasonings are all permitted. Side dishes may be offered, but voting centers on the team’s primary BBQ entry. Trimming, seasoning, and marinating can be done beforehand, but cooking must continue at the tailgate. Teams provide their own ingredients, grills or smokers, fuel, tables, utensils, coolers, and serving supplies, and they are responsible for safe storage, preparation, cooking, and service. Organizers may stop food from being served if there is a clear safety concern. Entries should be ready when serving begins, with small tasting portions available and the team name or number clearly displayed. Each Cauldron member may cast one vote for a single team, and competitors cannot vote for their own team. The team with the most valid votes wins, a tiebreaker will decide if needed, and trophies will be awarded to first, second, and third place. Teams are expected to clean their area and properly dispose of trash, grease, charcoal, and other materials in line with tailgate and stadium parking lot rules.

    Grayson Capps

Knuckleheads, 2715 Rochester Ave, Kansas City
    See details

Grayson Capps brings unhurried storytelling and raw Southern roots, shaped by years of reflection and a hard-won sense of ease. His latest solo release, Scarlett Roses, his first in six years, emerged after he let go of strict timelines and allowed songs to arrive in their own time, then captured them live in the studio to keep their spark. The music looks at separation, fatherhood, aging parents, and attempts to self medicate, yet it still finds humor, beauty, and catharsis. Expect raspy vocals, plainspoken honesty, and a sound that moves from intimate acoustic moments to gritty rock and funky blues. An Alabama native who first made noise in New Orleans with the House Levelers and Stavin’ Chain, Capps launched a solo run with If You Knew My Mind and followed with Wail & Ride, Songbones, Rott & Roll, and The Lost Cause Minstrels, along with the collaborative Willie Sugarcapps project. His work has drawn praise for energy and authenticity from outlets including NPR’s Mountain Stage, the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Exclaim, JamBase, AllMusic, Blurt, and American Songwriter.

Here Together: food, stories and sound

4327 Troost Ave, Kansas City · verified Oct 4
    See details

Here Together is a shared circle shaped by potluck food, candid conversation, rhythm, and attentive presence. Participants gather on cushions and blankets either in the Creative Empowerment Collective studio with its bamboo floor or at an outdoor spot selected together at the close of the prior gathering, such as a park or a forest trail. The experience begins with intentional arrival, offering a choice between smudging or the warm scent of tulsi, rose, and chai herbs rubbed into the palms. From there, the time flows in a grounded, lively way. Food is exchanged potluck style, stories surface naturally, and sound moves through the circle with snapping, clapping, improvised singing, and at times a song played from a phone when it clearly fits the moment. This is a setting for people seeking genuine company, straightforward talk, and meaningful connection in real time. Some come ready to speak, others to listen, and those arriving solo are welcomed with ease. Children are welcome. Little preparation is needed beyond something to share for the potluck and anything that supports comfortable sitting. Presence comes first, and each person can participate in the rhythm of the gathering in the way that feels right. Many leave feeling seen, and they may also carry home a new idea, a recipe, a fresh perspective, or a story that lingers.

StoneBriar Farm, 9035 Edgerton Rd, De Soto · verified Oct 4
    See details

Guided by the pull of a country road and a homeward theme, this gala celebrates a year of God’s faithfulness at On Eagle’s Wings Farm. What began as a seed of a dream has grown into a living ministry where rooms were renewed, fences repaired, barns rang with laughter, pastures thrived, and the arena welcomed children gaining confidence, volunteers serving with joy, and churches united around a shared mission. The story of the first year includes hundreds of children, teenagers, and adults, together with volunteers, churches, businesses, and community partners who have worshiped and prayed, served side by side, gathered around bonfires, celebrated baptisms, mentored young people, planted gardens, restored buildings, cared for animals, and formed friendships meant to last. The evening offers gratitude for every volunteer, donor, church, sponsor, and prayer that helped make this work possible, recognizing changed lives, renewed hope, and strangers becoming family. Looking ahead, the vision includes additional homes for families to heal together, expanded equine-assisted ministry, mentoring, counseling, discipleship, educational opportunities, and spaces designed for worship, community, and restoration. With a heart for children in foster care, sibling groups seeking stability, young mothers needing support, and families pursuing wholeness, the path forward points to a place of belonging and a warm welcome home.

Light refreshments will be available before a program that traces the story behind a handmade quilt honoring the Lewis and Clark Expedition in the area that would become Kansas and Kansas City. Schultz with fellow members of the Grinter Place Quilters Guild, the quilt hangs in an academic building at Kansas City Kansas Community College and was showcased in Kansas City, Kansas during the expedition’s bicentennial. Both are members of organizations focused on the expedition, including the national Lewis and Clark Trail Alliance and the Missouri-Kansas Riverbend Chapter of the Lewis and Clark Heritage Trail Foundation. They shared these findings at a national convention hosted by their local chapter in Kansas City, Missouri, then presented again at KCKCC with the quilt on view. Volunteer Info and Training Night

Leavenworth Interfaith Community of Hope, 311 Kiowa St, Leavenworth
    Free

Community of Hope is seeking volunteers to support its night shelter. The shelter relies on a dedicated network and needs about 70 volunteers each week. Volunteers can choose the day of the week and select one of four overnight shifts. Responsibilities vary by shift. Early night volunteers help with guest check-in, hand out sandwiches and snacks, make coffee, and distribute bedding. Volunteers in the middle of the night monitor the facility from the volunteer desk, assist guests as needed, and keep laundry moving. The early morning shift focuses on waking guests, helping with check-out, and cleaning the facility. A regular monthly information and training session introduces the volunteer role, reviews policies and procedures, includes a tour of the facility, and provides time for questions. No preregistration is required. For questions or to arrange training at a different time, contact Executive Director Jennifer Christensen at Jennifer.Christensen@lvcommunityofhope.org or 785-766-8939.
