Hosted by Owl Eyes Wilderness Survival and taught by Institute for Wild Med, this immersive training blends realistic, hands-on scenarios with online learning. Successful completion earns a two year certification in Wilderness First Aid and CPR, and it also serves as a recertification option for current Wilderness First Aid holders. All experience levels are welcome, and the course fulfills a requirement in the OEWS Alula Curriculum and Certification. Designed for people who spend time in remote places where professional help may be an hour or more away, the curriculum covers patient assessment and exams, monitoring vital signs, gathering medical history, controlling bleeding and caring for soft tissue injuries, stabilizing sprains, strains, fractures, and dislocations, splinting, and managing environmental and medical emergencies. Topics include hypothermia and frostbite, heat exhaustion and heat stroke, burns, spinal care, lightning, bites and stings, allergies and anaphylaxis, shock, diabetes, asthma, and seizures. Training includes 16 hours of in-person Wilderness First Aid instruction plus approximately 2 hours of online CPR. Full attendance and completion of all online coursework and skills labs are required to receive certification. Scenarios use make up to simulate injuries, so plan to dress for the weather and wear clothing that can get dirty or wet, since you may practice on the ground. Bring a notebook and pen, water, lunch and snacks, and any gear you typically carry on a day hike to practice with your own equipment. Restrooms are available for the duration of the class. Minimum age is 16. Crawford Memorial United Methodist Church hosts a Last Hope K9 Rescue adoption event featuring adoptable dogs. An application on file is required to enter the adoption area, and it can be completed in advance or upon arrival. Fully approved adopters are admitted earlier than those with applications still in process. To ensure there is enough time to complete placements and deposits, adoption and deposit conversations conclude shortly before the event ends. Dogs are available on a first come, first served basis, so arriving early is recommended if there is a specific pup you hope to meet. Fully approved attendees with no pets or additional humans at home may be able to adopt and bring a dog home the same day. Please bring a 6 foot non retractable leash. If there are pets at home, personality matches will be discussed and a follow up meet and greet will be scheduled off site, since on site introductions are not available. If any household members have travel plans in the three weeks following the event, browsing is welcome, but please wait to pursue a deposit or adoption until everyone has returned, as dogs cannot be held in foster homes and successful transitions require a stable schedule.

Based in Brooklyn, Davis is a 2025 Guggenheim Fellow in Composition and a DownBeat Critics Poll Alto Saxophone Rising Star, with additional fellowships from NYFA, the Jerome Foundation, Chamber Music America, and the Foundation for Contemporary Arts. Her residencies include MacDowell, The Jazz Gallery, Civitella, and the Rockefeller Estate, and she has mentored with New Music USA’s Next Jazz Legacy. She has released eight albums as a leader and collaborated with artists including Allison Miller, Lee Konitz, John Zorn, Angelica Sanchez, The Femme Jam, Miles Okazaki, Nicole Mitchell, Rajna Swaminathan, and Matt Mitchell. Recent work includes Portals, which reflects on grief and memory, and contributions to Terri Lyne Carrington’s New Standards. She also teaches courses on gender in jazz at The New School and maintains a private studio at the Manhattan School of Music. Trumpeter Kelly Bray and drummer Denver Nuckolls open the program. Wanda Metcalf shares folk songs about life, cats and protest, drawing on about 20 years of songwriting alongside her interests in painting, Go and mushroom collecting. Elizabeth Burke, a conservatory trained classical violinist turned improvising fiddler and guitar strumming soulful singer songwriter, delivers truth telling songs with thought provoking lyrics, powerful vocals, unique melodies and rootsy instrumental work. Bernie Drury, whose path includes time busking in France, appreciates writing that moves from heartfelt to lighthearted in the spirit of John Prine, Jim Croce and Lyle Lovett, and is currently recording a full length album. Eric Behr of Riverside, Rhode Island, winner of the Rose Garden Coffee House Performing Songwriter Competition, writes story songs that explore lived experiences with moments of humor and resilience. Maine based Rob Cunningham blends folk, Americana and roots rock with melodic songwriting and a focus on connection, social justice and matters of the heart.

Learn to make your own dirt cups and Halloween treats in a hands-on baking class that builds core kitchen skills. Participants will prepare their goodies starting with basic ingredients, bake them in the oven, add decorations when appropriate, and help with clean up. Finished treats can be enjoyed during the class or taken home. The fee is $80 per person. Please plan for drop-off and pick-up, or attend with a one-to-one support person.
